I need to run 2 pc screens for home recording but my second graphics card is a larger fitting than my other one is there a adaptor i can get to make this fit?

As far as I know their is no adapters. The cards must match the pci slots on your motherboard. If they did make such a thing I wouldn't use it.

Desktop or laptop?

Desktop you need a videocard that supports two displays.
Or one that was designed for two displays. Many Dell Business models support two displays on the built-in video. One Analog and One Digital. For example an Optiplex 745 with the Special Dell Y Cable.

Laptop you would need one that supports two displays. Most do not AFAIK.
