Can't Play Avi. File On Media Player

can't play avi. file on windows media player 7.1 for win 98. i get . Error ID = 0x8004022F.
Is there something i can download to play the file?

0x8004022F shows as a DirectShow error code:
The file format is invalid.

You might have a corrupt file.
