I'm new here - first post. Looking for help with a Google redirect issue, which just started a few hours ago, and I can't seem to solve on my own. Whenever I search something in Google and then click the News link show on the left-hand side of the search results, Google automatically redirects to a blank white page with just this information: (function(){})();(function(){})();
I can't get News search results at all. I did a scan with Trend Micro Housecall (free version I downloaded) and it did not find any issues. Any help with be greatly appreciated!

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

I am using Firefox. I tried the Google links using IE, and didn't have the redirect issue. Also, Java is not enabled in IE. I never use IE, so I haven't kept it updated. I'm wondering if this redirect issue has something to do with Firefox and/or Java?

I ran GMER and got these results:

Please download GooredFix from one of the locations below and save it to your Desktop

  • Ensure all Firefox windows are closed.
  • To run the tool, double-click it (XP), or right-click and select Run As Administrator (Vista).

If you're using Firefox 3.x, close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode).
If you're using Firefox 4, or higher go Help>Restart Firefox with Add-ons Disabled.
Same issue?

Did the Firefox restart with add-ons disabled. Using Firefox 9.0.1. Still get the same issue. When I click on two of the Google links on the left hand side of the results page (News, Shopping) I am still redirected to a blank page with "(function(){})();(function(){})();" in the upper left hand corner. I did find something strange. If I click on other links in the list on the left hand side, such as books, images or maps and then go back and click "News" or "Shopping," Google shows the correct "News" results page. Something has affected just the News and Shopping links.

I apologize for the delay in responding. I talked to my nephew and he asked me to clear my browsing and download history, clear my forms and search history, clear my cookies and clear my cache, before I uninstalled my Firefox browser. So, I did and guess what? Yep. The problem was resolved. I feel like an idiot. haha. Can't believe I failed to do that at the beginning. So, apparently, all I needed to do was clear out my browser.

Thank you so much for your patience and assistance. I greatly appreciate the work you do and this site!! Glad to know you guys are here!
