Dvd Drive Wont Read

As you might not know my drives are bleep my disk drive is totaly ripped out and my dvd can open and close it reads cds but ive ben trying dvds and it will not read dvds well first off my dvd drive d: thing wont even show up

well mine i jsut about my dvd drive period it wont show up hes trying to burn a dvd i cant read dvds period or anything D: doesent even show up

It still needs to be installed correctly.

Do you have more than one optical drive? The original and the new DVD drive? If so have you set the one on the end of the IDE cable to "master" and the one connected to the connector in the middle of the cable to "slave"?

Are the power plugs plugged in?

Does it show up when you double click on the "My Computer" icon?

If so, right click on it and click on "properties".

If so Choose the "hardware tab

Highlight the drive and click "properties"

What does it tell you the status is?

If it says it is working properly run the troubleshooter.

If that doesn't have results click the "driver" tab and then "update drivers"
