My old HP finally quit almost a month ago and being on limited funds and researching I found that HP makes Compact.

I got a Compact Presario CQ57 that had Windows 7 , Svc pack 1 "pre-installed".

Well, I checked the computer properties and there is no SVC PCK 1 but after reading so many horror stories that may be a good thing.

When you get this machine in the box there are no instructions except to hook it to the power and modem. I can do that.

After 2, three hour calls to India and tests run galore they said my hard drive was good but my software was bad and they were very kind to send me 3 Discs- Installations 1 and 2, and a 3rd one for drivers.

I installed it and it took me a damned week to find out Installer 5 wasn't even opened.

Once I did that I started getting regular updates but before June I have nearly 80 FAILED updates.

I don't know how to install them and 2 are SVC pack 1 and I don't want to install those- yet, anyway- after all I've heard.

When you go to Programs and Features close to half say repair. I push repair. It says it's done and then I check and it says to either remove or repair again.

This thing is making me nuts and I've read on the Windows 7 board on here but you guys seem to know way more than I do about these things.

Am I supposed to run WOW AND System 32? They're both on here. Am I supposed to merge registries? If so, God help me.

OK, I need to rake a final bunch of leaves and look forward to coming in abut an hour from now with an answer from a nice person.

I'm sorry I'm not from your generation and if I lived in a big city I'd go buy Windows for Dummies but there's only a Christian bookstore here.

Thank you in advance for your kindness.

I'm probably from your generation or older. This thing sounds like it needs to be sent back rather than fixed on here. Did you buy it local or order it? Either way there should be a warranty with it.
Good luck...

Dear Gal--
I have to agree with John..your choice was, unfortuantely a poor one.
Since you haven't posted an Email ID on your profile, I can't make
more specific suggestions.

Hello Miggymeister
It is not adviseable to accept help off the board in Private conversation as suggested by AMJ-Orign. This is risky as the advice given is not moderated by the board for accuracy and validity. It also defeats the purpose of a public forum as no one else is helped by a solution that is not posted publicly.
