My system has been experiencing severe slowdowns. Originally I noticed this only when I was on the net. Now this has spread to offline use of varied applications.

I use Firefox 9.0.1 and have tried Safari 5.1.2(7534.52.7) and IE 9.0.8112.16421 with the same result. The program shows as “Not Responding” but eventually responds.
Can’t get task manager to open when this is happening, but it is available after the fact.

My operating system is Win 7 Pro with auto updates on. I use Kaspersky 2011 with definitions auto updated. I have used Malwarebytes MBAM updating it before running. At first if found no infections. At this point I used my system to scan my son’s hard drive via a usb interface. His system was significantly infected and I felt I was safe going thru the usb interface. My system was infected thru that connection, but Kaspersky and then MBAM scans seemed to clear my system up. No, I didn’t write down what they found and have since uninstalled MBAm and run the cleanup app then reinstalled it. Yeah, I know I should have recorded the infections it found.

Now my system has had a couple Blue Screens of Death episodes and it is spreading to a laptop ( now experiencing the BSOD) Windows_Service_Exception as best as I can remember. Happened again as I was typing this in.

Kaspersky and MBAM indicate the system is clean, but still getting the slow downs and BSOD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.

Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.

* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

=============================================================================

=============================================================================

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

Sorry it has taken this long to get back to you. My system crashed yesterday and I couldn't get it to boot till this morning. I suspect that my memory needs to be reseated. That could explain the periodic BSOD's. Cooling the system down overnight seemed to get it running or the stars just lined up right.

Here are the scan results:

All looks fine.

Download and install SIW Multilanguage With Installer (SIW free version) (bottom of the screen)

Run the tool.
After it scans your computer, navigate to Hardware>Sensors and post all info from there.

I don't really see any CPU temperature reading.
Are you sure it's complete info?

Is it laptop or desktop?

It's a desktop system, Dell Dimension 9150 dual core 2.8ghz 4gb ram with a 1gb video card dual 250gb hard drives and a dvd and a cd drive. Has a 600 watt power supply and added fans. System is heavier than average with load from components, but the power supply should handle that load.
As for if it was all the info, I copied to clipboard in order to be able to save the Sensors data. I ran CPU thermometer and it only gave me loads on the two cores and total load, no temp data either??? Could a cable be unplugged?

I'd get a can of compressed air and I'd clean well inside the case.
See if you'll still get BSODs afterwards.

I vacuumed the case when I reseated the memory this morning. Are you thinking the CPU temp sensor is dead or not connected?

Vacuuming is a very bad idea.
Vacuum cleaner creates a lot of static electricity, which is a killer to electronic components.

Heat sensor may be broken.

A. If you have more than one RAM module installed, try starting/running computer with one RAM stick at a time.

NOTE Keep in mind, the manual check listed above is always superior to the software check, listed below. DO NOT proceed with memtest, if you can go with option A

B. If you have only one RAM stick installed...
...run memtest...

1. Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)
2. Unzip downloaded memtest86+-....iso.zip file.
3. Inside, you'll find memtest86+-....iso file.
4. Download, and install ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/
5. Insert blank CD into your CD drive.
6. Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc
7. Click on Browse for a file... icon:

Posted Image

8. Locate memtest86+-....iso file, and click Open button.
9. Click on ImgBurn green arrow to start burning bootable memtest86 CD:

Posted Image

10. Once the CD is created, boot from it, and memtest will automatically start to run.

The running program will look something like this depending on the size and number of ram modules installed:

Posted Image

It's recommended to run 5-6 passes. Each pass contains very same 8 tests.

This will show the progress of the test. It can take a while. Be patient, or leave it running overnight.

The following image is the test results area:

The most important item here is the “errors” line. If you see ANY errors, even one, most likely, you have bad RAM.
