It also says the ip address can not be renewed. ive spoke to her to check the cable to the modem and that seems fine. when she starts the computer up it says error loading c:\prog~1\newdot~1.dll the specified module could not be found. any help would be very kind
Thankyou

This is a little limited on the information.
Have her unplug everything. Not turn in off, unplug the router, modem, and computers.
Wait one minute then plug in the modem. (If there was a battery back up remove it for a minute also.)
Wait another minute and plug in the router.
Wait a minute the turn back on the computers.
This should renew all Dynamic IP addresses.

yeah the computer is connected directly into the modem. she has turned the power to modem off and then powered it back up to renew the ip address. ive asked her to check the connection properties and she says there is an ip address there.

What tg1911 has linked you to in the information about newdot~1.dll. It appears it is a malware/virus. Follow the link at the bottm of the linked page on how to remove and scan for the malware.

Read the instructions on how to post a hijack this log in the hijack this forum.

then wait until one of the experts there shows you how to remove this infection.

NEWDOTNET usually comes from peer2peer applications, and also opens the computer to virii and ad/spy ware.

You don't need to do that...you can either download LSP fix to a floppy or thumbdrive, and that will repair the winsock problem, or you uninstall TCP/IP, and then reinstall it. Removal and reinstallation will repair the problem...

Unless you really feel like doing a reformat.

~After thought~ You could always run HJT from a floppy, download the log to floppy and fransfer it to the HJT forum on a different computer.
