I had the Security Monitor 2012 virus, and am having similar problems with the internet not connecting, along with some broken files that hopefully were fixed by using the XP Error-checking tool. Should I start a new entry regarding my problems or follow the advice being given here? I am not a techie, please keep this in mind if anyone tries to help. Everything I know about pc's is from trying to fix problems

Please run these next.
If you have run this then update and rerun it,

Next run MBAM (MalwareBytes):

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
Download Link 1 <<<== Use this one first.

Download Link 2MBAM may "make changes to your registry" as part of its disinfection routine. If using other security programs that detect registry changes (ie Spybot's Teatimer), they may interfere or alert you. Temporarily disable such programs or permit them to allow the changes.
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
For instructions with screenshots, please refer to the How to use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Guide.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan.
  • If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
  • If you encounter any problems while downloading the definition updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
Back at the main Scanner screen:
  • Click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.
  • Exit MBAM when done.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be asked to reboot your computer so MBAM can proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Troubleshoot Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Make sure the following options are checked:
    • Internet Services
    • Windows Firewall
    • System Restore
    • Security Center
    • Windows Update
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

"Make sure you are connected to the Internet."

I can't do that...But I have Malwarebytes installed and am running another scan now.
I put FSS on a flashdrive and will transfer it and scan as soon as Malwarebytes finishes the scan.

I used this to replace a missing rundll32.exe file, and substituted ipsec.sys in the command.

Hello,sorry had major problems...

Backup Your Registry << IMPORTANT

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Next: Download XP.zip :
Unzip the file.
You'll find several files inside.
Double click on ipsec.reg file and confirm the prompt.
Restart computer, check on internet connection and post new FSS log

Downloaded the Erunt zipped version, but didn't contain an erunt.exe command. The version with the installer did.
Did the XP.zip but still can't connect to internet.

I'm working on rebooting after installing Winfix.

Ever since the virus, when the laptop boots up, it goes into idle mode as soon as the wallpaper loads, (I've determined idle mode by opening the Windows Task Manager), and it will sit there for a minute or two before finishing loading icons. You've seen the FSS reports, what else is wrong with this pc?

Still waiting on reboot.....Posted Image

Still unable to connect to internet....going to try plan B
