Hello lacanyon.

Step 1.

I need to see another HijackThis log, but you need to extract (unzip) HijackThis first. Otherwise the backups made when items are fixed won't be secure. The easiest way to accomplish this is to reinstall and delete any copies of HijackThis.zip you have saved.

Please download the self-extracting version of HijackThis from here:

HijackThis_sfx download

Save HijackThis_sfx to your desktop.

Double-click the file then click the Unzip button. Then close the Self-Extractor window.

Using My Computer/Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe to run it. If you would like to make a shortcut for your Desktop so it's more easily accessable, right click HijackThis.exe and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut).

Please run the extracted HijackThis.exe from now on. Delete any copies of HijackThis.zip that you have saved.

Step 2.

I would like to recommend before going any further to install One of these free Firewalls:

Free Zone Alarm
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall.

and One of these free Anti-Virus programs:

AVG Anti-Virus
Avast
Bit Defender

Please Note - Choose only one Firewall & one Anti-virus
to be installed to avoid conflicts between the software and other problems.

Please Update the database of your chosen Anti-virus software.

Please download, install, and update the ewido anti-malware:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck
    "Install background guard"
    "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning Database could not be found!. This is normal so just click OK.
  • To launch ewido double-click the icon that should now be on your desktop.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes the status bar at the bottom will display Update successful.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
    ewido manual updates.
  • Close ewido.
Step 3

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

Perform a Full system scan with the anti-virus you just installed and updated.
  • Now open ewido and click on scanner.
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite and reboot back into normal mode.

Step 4.

Please re-scan with HijackThis and post a new HJT log along with the Ewido scan results.

Thank you,
ourwilly.

Hello lacanyon.

Thank you for doing this for me,
and please do not worry if you had trouble finding the file.

Please be sure to send the files that you did find.
We need to require more information on these
and that just because they aren't packed doesn't mean they are good.

Once you have sent these files

Please continue with the rest of the "FIX" from my last post

Thank you,
ourwilly. :flowers:

Hi lacanyon

ourwilly will be unavailable for a couple of days so I'll be substituting for him since I've been helping him with this fix. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you.

We let a couple of things geet by us so for now please do the following:

1. Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

2. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. Don't run it yet as we'll get to it in a minute.

3. Update Ewido like you did before.

4. Scan again with HijackThis 1.99.1. Put a checkmark by the following entry:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: nccdleci.dll,Runner.dll

Close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and then click the "Fix checked" button.

5. Let's try to delete these files in normal mode. You'll have to do a search for them and let's make sure you have Search set up correctly. START>Search then you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked. Then copy and paste the following files listed in bold--it's important to only find and delete the files with the exact spelling and exact file extension:

nccdleci.dll

Please report back where the file was found for example: C:\WINDOWS\system32. If you have any problems deleting try again in safe mode and let me know the results.

6. Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

7. Run the updated Ewido again as you did before.

8. Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.]

9. Reboot back into normal mode and do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.
10. Scan again with HijackThis and post another log.

So in your next post I'll need to see these logs:

1. Ewido
2. Kaspersky
3. HijackThis

I cant delete any files when Im in safe mode. It would prompt "copy" or "move" and thats it. I can find the files normally. Please advise.

Not really sure but the Pfind log suggests you may have a problem that is fixed by a patch from Microsoft. Are you fully up to date? Let's see how this fix goes then I'll look into it further.

Also let me know if your PC's performance has improved any after these fxes.

The thing about people

is they change

when they walk away.--Mipso

OK, Laurel, you got a real nasty that's dug real deep into your system and removal is going to be tricky. Just be prepared for the removal process to take several more steps. I may have to call in someone else with more experince with this infection as it is fairly new also.

You'll need to copy and paste these intructions to Notepad for when you go into safe mode.

1. To use RootKit Revealer please make sure you are logged in as an Administrator to the computer.
  • Please download and unzip Rootkit Revealer to your desktop.
  • Please leave the defaults set as they are to:
    • Hide NTFS Metadata Files: this option is on by default
    • Scan Registry: this option is on by default.
  • Launch rootkit revealer on the system and press the Scan button.
RootkitRevealer scans the system reporting its actions in a status area at the bottom of its window and noting discrepancies in the output list. It may take a long time please disconnect from the internet and leave the PC to be scanned until it is finished.
  • The log can be very large please edit out the items in the following folders in the log : C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT and C:\System Volume Information, if in the log, before posting it.
  • Please post the balance of the log here in this thread using Add Reply (please double check that it has all been posted as it may be too long for one post)]
2. Then Download and Save blacklite to your desktop.
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there... like "wbemtest.exe"
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
Copy and paste this log along with the rootkit revealer log.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

3. Open HijackThis

Click Open the Misc Tools section OR
Select Config(Bottom Right)>>>Select Misc Tools

Select Generate StartUpList log and make sure that both Boxes beside it are checked:

Put a check by:
List all minor sections(Full)
and
List Empty Sections(Complete)

It will produce a NotePad Page. I need you to post the entire contents of that page to the next post.

4. Next, Click Start-> Right Click "My Computer"-> Hardware-> Device Manager

Once the Device Manager is Open-> Click View-> Show Hidden Devices

Scroll down to Non-Plug and Play Devices and Double Click it

The list will expand and I need you to write down the exact name of every entry there and place that information in the next post. Make a new Notepad file and save it to your desktop.

5. Also go to Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs and tell me if you see an entry for Windows Overlay Components. I just want to know if it's there.

OK, now boot back into normal mode and post all this info I've asked for. It's a lot and may not fit into one post, just click Add Reply again to continue when you have to. Then we'll get started on a fix. Please list the info in this order:

1. RootKitRevealer log
2. Blacklight log
3. HJT Startup List log
4. Device Manager list
5. Add/Remove info

The thing about people

is they change

when they walk away.--Mipso
