I'm posting my 1st HiJack this log to see if somebody can tell what problems I have.I used the spybotS&D,Adaware,Microsoft beta spyware removal and whatever they all got rid of I'm still having pop-ups and a window comes up when my computer is turned on that say"This computer protected by Execryptor" If I run spybot I still have command service and if I let it go alot of other stuff is downloaded eventully like network monitar,smitfraud-c,surfsidekick etc. I was wondering if it would be better just to reformatt windows xp-1 and start over.I had so much trouble w/xp-2 that I never went back and upgraded after I had to reformatt the last time . .Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Hi BirdofPrey.

I would hold off reformatting for the time being -- there is a good chance we can get this fixed. You state that you get an error when you boot the system about Execryptor protecting your computer. I've looked around and have found that Execryptor is a legitimate application. It seems to be at all the major downloading sites, and can be easily downloaded. It seems to me that you don't know what the error is and i assume you didn't install the program in the first place yourself?

If you wish to remove the Execryptor program and its services, try clicking on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs. From within add/remove program uninstall the following if they exist by double-clicking on the following entries:

Execryptor

Let's get the HijackThis log clean; you have numerous infections.

*It is a good idea to print off these instructions - they will be needed later when internet access is not available. You may also like to save these instructions in word/notepad to the desktop where they can be easily found for the same reasons as above.
It is important that you complete the following instructions in the correct order, and also that you don't miss anything out!
_____________________________

Make sure that you can see hidden files (Windows XP).
-Click "Start".
-Click "My Computer".
-Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
-Select the "View" tab.
-Under the "Hidden files and folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
-Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
-Click "Yes" to confirm.
-Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types".
-Click "OK".
_____________________________

*Boot into Safe Mode (without networking support!)
By pressing the F8 key right when Windows starts, usually right after you hear your computer
beep when you reboot it (some versions of windows will display 'Starting Windows' with a grey progress bar)
you will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.

* Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed and click on "Fix Checked" and exit HijackThis when finished.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\windir32.exe <--file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllmanager.exe <--file
C:\WINDOWS\system32\k2pm0c71ef.dll <--file

Reboot to normal mode. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Thanks alot for the fast response. Some of this is a little hard for me so before I start,I have verizon dsl wireless thats always connected and I need to know if when I boot the computer in safe mode should I disconnect that 1st and should I turn off system restore? Also I did check the add/remove programs and there is no Execryptor in there and also ran the microsoft search and the only files that ever finds is in the History.I realize they are a legitimate program, but I didn't order it and don't use it, my start is so slow I thought it would be better to get rid of it.

Hi BirdofPrey

At this time there is no need to tinker with system restore at all. We can deal with that in the end. That is because disabling System Restore wipes out all restore points. Should a problem arise during the fix you would have no good working configuration to go back to get the computer up and running.

The fact you have a constant internet connection is fine; no need to disconnect at all. Just make sure you run safe mode without networking support and everything should go well. In regards to your queries on Execryptor, we can deal with these after we have got your HJT log clean. The priority at the moment is to remove the potentially dangerous files that are lingering  It may be just a registry entry that has been left over, we can deal with it later.

If you run into any more problems just skip them and move onto the next step.

Good Luck
David

Hi BirdofPrey

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Note : Once the pc has restarted if a log does not appear or the icons didn't dissappear, run the "second.bat" located inside the L2mfix folder.

David

Hey again BirdofPrey

It looks like l2me fix did it's job really well! Are you still getting pop-ups? I think that the l2me fix #2 took care of one of those files that was causing the error. This showed up in the L2me fix log:

Successfully Deleted: C:\WINDOWS\system32\MZCDNSHLP_1-0-0_DSR.dll
_____________________________

I think that those errors won't pop-up again as the file in error has been deleted. I don't know what happened to the other file though. Let's try this:

Please visit http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Click on Browse... and navigate to the following file: C:\windows\system32\kadfi.dll
Click Open
Please let me know the results in your next reply.
_____________________________

*Now start a new scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items (if present):

O20 - Winlogon Notify: MediaContentIndex - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jrl0253mg.dll (file missing)

* Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed and click on "Fix Checked" and exit HijackThis when finished.
_____________________________

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report
_____________________________

Download WinPFind!
  • Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.
  • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode
  • Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
  • When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer.
  • Be patient as this scan may take a while. When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed.
  • Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.
_____________________________

The above two scans will just gather a bit more infomation for me so i can analyse the status of the system. You may be clean, but I think it's better to be safe than sorry. So i need 4 things from you in the next reply:

1) A new HJT log
2) The Panda Scan log
3) The WinpFind log
4)The Jotti scan results.

David
