Windows XP Wont Boot

Hi, i tried starting my computer up yesterday and after the windows xp logo scren comes up before it loads the desktop up, a blue screen came up with loads of writing and it says PROCESS1_INITILIZATION_FAILED, i read to run xp recovery console from xp disc and run chkdsk /p /r, i did that which tuk a few hours to get through and still hasnt fixed the problem, does anyone have a fix for this??
