Recently picked up several virus/trojans/malware/etc and have been using several software programmes to remove - Microsoft Security Essentials, CCleaner, Malwarebytes Anti-malware, Spybot and Ad-Aware. Infections included the ping.exe, disable task manager and google redirect.

After cleaning by the above programmes, have noticed the CPU usage a lot higher than previously, and at times would hear short adverts/music playing whilst not having an Internet page open (IE8). On broadband so checked Task Manager and noticed two iexplorer.exe process running initiated by System.

None of the above programmes seemed to pick up any virus/etc so installed free version of Avast and it picked up JS:ScriptlP-inf trojans in a number of Temp Internet files (moved to virus chest) but more worryingly a Win32:Patched-ADQ trojan in explorer.exe/svchost.exe/winlogon.exe files. Avast seems to be managing the situation by blocking the process when starting to run, but are these actual infections as they have not been picked up by any other programme, but this prevention maybe affecting my pc in another way as icons for Show Desktop (on Taskbar) and My Computer (on Start Menu) change after initial boot up, and sometimes Task Manager wont responded when trying to close down.

Running Windows XP, 2002, Service Pack 3.

Apologies my first post is asking for help.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
