Over the past year or so, I've had to visit the local computer shop (i.e. give them my computer to fix) following a faulty motherboard (can't be helped, but approx 130), but at least 2 (and possibly 3) times to have have a virus problem sorted at about 70 a go !

There was a time (back in the days of floppy discs) where I managed to partition my drive and run a version of Linux, could format my disc and reinstall everything myself - these days I've become clueless.

Things I need to find out about:

Which anti malaware and root kit (what is s rootkit anyway?) to run along with mse.
How to back my hard drive (really !).
How to reformat and reinstall following back up.
Do I need/how to partition my H.D.
Which version of linux to use.
And I'm sure there'll be more....

I realise there are FAQ sections for much of what I need to know, but just thought I'd introduce myself before I start picking your brains.
