Basically I installed a sata hdd with a pci controller and my cpu usage got stuck at 100%. Here is it all at greater detail.

I recently installed a 400gig SATA hdd on my windows xp pro computer. I used the sata controller it came with. After I installed the hdd, controller, and got it all formatted and working I noticed my CPU usage was at 100%.

I restarted the computer and it was still at 100%. I uninstalled all the software it came with and removed the controller and the power plug from the drive. The problem is still there. I have ran several spyware/adware programs including trendmicro's housecall, spysweeper, adaware, spyware doctor, and hijackthis.

I turned my computer off for the night seeing as it was stuck at 100%. The next morning I turned it back on and it was fine for a couple hours then it shot to 100% again. I have tried shutting all the programs down and it was still at 100%. I checked the BIOS and in the system event log it listed "out of range" under event, and "CPU0Temperature" under event data.

From what I've gathered from others is that it could be the heatsink failing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here is my hijackthis log:

Hello kikkoman and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. Because a HijackThis log was posted the original topic was moved to this forum to investigate for viruses and malware. I do not think that that is the problem here. The log is clean.

I would suggest posting a new topic back over in the Hardware forum but do not include a HijackThis log. That way the topic will stay where it belongs and the hardware experts can assist.

Good luck with the CPU.
