Hello, I'm having problems with my Windows Vista.
I got a virus about 3 days ago and just removed it today, but there seems to still be a rootkit.
Below is a long list of the past few things that I was doing or is happening to my laptop.

I have a Windows Vista Home Premium.
Its a Fugitsu Lifebook Series (Build: 6FEN2W0), 32-bit operating system.

I was browsing the web a few days ago and recieved the "Vista Security 2012" virus as described here.
I didn't use my laptop for a few days, because I wasn't sure on how to fix it. (I found that link just today.)

Today onward:
I turned on the laptop in safemode because the virus would not let me open anything.
When it finished loading, the virus was still present. (Even in safe mode...)
I opened task manager and ended its process.
Afterward, I opened Firefox and went to Bleepingcomputer, but I had a popup tab with an ad on it. I closed it immediately, and thought I had just accidentally clicked on an ad.
After I ran Rkill and it killed the process.
I scrolled through the thread, and saw the step for the TDSSkiller, but since my laptop was lagging, I wasn't sure if I could download it, so I skipped the step. (I already had Rkill and Malwarebytes on my laptop.)
I scanned with Malwarebytes, which found 9 viruses, also getting rid of the Vista Security 2012 virus. (Log of Malwarebytes is below under DDS.)
The removal said a reboot was necessary, so I rebooted it.
It seemed fine at first and the virus was really gone, so I opened firefox and went to download TDSSkiller to scan.
After downloading it, renaming it, and moving it to the desktop, I tried to open it, but nothing came up.
I tried to look up why, but before I could find a forum post about it, my laptop started lagging, and a virus warning came up from Avast!.
My laptop was lagging so much, I was unable to even move the mouse, so like whenever my laptop is lagging, I just put it into sleepmode, which usually gets rid of the lagging. Which it did.
When I reopened my laptop, I had a Googlechrome browser opened up, with an Avast! link. (Screenshot)
I had about 3 of those tabs open at once for some odd reason, but while the laptop was going into sleepmode, I heard the Avast! warning come up 3 times.
Eventually, TDSSkiller worked after waiting for a long time, so I ran a scan with it, which found nothing.
I tried to browse the web for that virus, but as I was reading a thread in Bleepingcomputer, I got another virus warning from Avast!, except the warning wasn't the same as the last few. (Screenshot)
I started to get paranoid, so I began doing the Preparation Guide.
I used Defogger, Downloaded and ran DDS, but as it was running the virus warning came up again. (Screenshot)
It was taking much longer than 3 minutes, so I tried closing it.
I then ran Rkill to see if I might be able to kill the virus momentarily while I do all the preparation, which found nothing, but an Avast! definition. (The update of virus definitions)
I tried to run DDS again, which worked this time. (Below is the file.)
After I decided to run Malwarebytes again as a quick scan cuz I remember reading somewhere it finds things better in normal mode, but it found nothing.
I then ran GMER like requested and saved a log.
Throughout the scan, I kept getting a periodic virus warning of the first virus warning. (Screenshot)
The scan also found something written in red, and after it finished, there was a warning saying something like it has found a rootkit on my laptop.(Screenshot)
And here I am posting this post, but then another tab of ad came up, and I closed it immediately. I'm sure this time, I didn't click on an ad, because I was just typing.
As I was posting this, I constantly got warnings from Avast!, most were the first virus warning. (Screenshot)
Amoung them, at the end, was a virus warning of one that I haven't seen yet. (It said it was from Windows/System32/svchost or something like that.)
Most of these popups came up even when I wasn't browsing the web.

Thank you very much for reading this long post.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/434108 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!
