Day before yesterday is the first time I noticed any real problems with this computer. A fake Windows Security Warning kept popping up, urging me to download something. I clicked NO, but that didn't seem to matter, it kept popping back up. I figured it was fake because "Unregistered" was misspelled in the top bar of the message... Then I tried to open Explorer to Google what was going on, and how to get rid of it, but I wasn't able to open Explorer, it kept giving an error message. Finally managed to get online using a different way, but when googling, it kept redirecting me to weird sites.
I managed to get to the MBAM site by typing the URL, but it wouldn't let me download it at first. I managed to download it and run it, and it found: Backdoor.win32.Zacces.aug, Trojan.Gen.2, Heur:backdoor.win64.generic, Bifrost (??), Backdoor.win64.Zacces.ai and PUP.Bitminer. After that I ran Kaspersky virusscanner, which found one more threat. However, computer is still acting funny and I don't think I got rid of it all... So today I downloaded Avast and did a scan, it found some more stuff (more Trojans, DNSchanger) and recommended to do a boot scan (?) so I did that too. Found 1 more thing, which I was afraid to delete because it said it was in a Wndows folder, so I had it put in the Virus Chest instead. Sorry for the long staory, hope anyone is able to help me!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/434107 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Hi

Is your Norton license still valid?

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully first.

Please continue as follows:

  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New dds log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Blade, thank you so much for helping me!!

I am currently trying to run Combofix, but it has been stuck at stage 4 for about an hour now... anything I can do? I did follow all the steps to disable my A/Vs and stuff to the letter... I'm sending this reply from a different computer since I am scared to touch the infected one and mess up the whole Combofix thing!

OK, ignore my last reply... I ended up rebooting the computer, ran Combofix again and it finished! So here is the log. Also, Norton says I have 52 days of subscription left?? Does that mean I still have a valid license?

Hi,

Also, Norton says I have 52 days of subscription left?? Does that mean I still have a valid license?

Yes, it's still valid for that 52 days. However, if you don't renew your subscription within that timeframe you'll end up with outdated version that won't be able to detect new threats. Anyway, since you have also Avast installed you should decide between these two products. It's not recommended to have multiple antivirus programs running in the same system.

Please post fresh DDS logs too.

OK, I will post fresh DDS logs as soon as possible, but I won't have access to that computer until monday, so it will be a few days before I can post them, sorry about that.
