First off, I apologize if I can't provide a clear description as I am not good with pc (aside from browsing the net, streaming videos, & catching up with friends through FB). So here goes:
I was using my pc per usual when I got a popup warning that I have a Trojan virus of some kind, which slowed my pc down, that in frustration, I forced the power off. But when I turned it back on, it loops once then brought me to safemode, etc. option.
Thinking that rebooting the system will solve it, I reboot everything and had to dl and register everything again. It worked fine but after just a couple of days, I got a warning (again): Threat requiring manual removal detected: System infected: Tidserv Activity 2.
I tried both kaspersky's TDSSrootkiller (I think that was it's called) and norton's FixTDSS, to no avail. Both scan came up clean and that "no action" is required.
Then I was reading through the postings of other users in the norton community and I heard of this site. Also read something about norton being wrong in naming the infection, instead of Tidserv Activity 2, that is should read Zeroactivity(or something)...of course this all went over my head as I've no idea what it meant (I mean I tried to understand what Tidserv is but my puny brain just can't grasp it, sad to say).
I have a sony vgn-c140g laptop circa 2008 (I think and yes I know it's basically antique but I can't afford to buy a new one right now and it serves its purpose till now) with windows xp.
