Hello,

Recently my computer was infected with the win7 virus. I thought I got rid of it by using the steps in this http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-antispyware-2012 URL, but apparently not since my McAfee Firewall will not turn on. When tried it turns on for a second then returns back to its previous state of "turned off" mode.

I can see this issue has been posted before, but since it looks like logs are required to be used as feedback to see if everything is back to its original state I thought it would be better to post a new topic. Or if need be direct me to another thread.

Thanks

How do I install another copy? My computer came pre-installed with a copy already. Should I just go to the computers website?

Somewhere in McAfee you just have product registration number listed.
Save it and then you can download fresh copy from McAfee site and re-register it.

Do not uninstall mcafee

Mcafee personal firewall depends on WINDOWS FIREWALL(You may be missing the service in this case)
So due to dependency failure you cant turn on mcafee firewall

Go to RUN and type

services.msc and click ok

Check if you have Windows firewall service. If you dont have that, try this

Create a restore point before trying this

Download both the registry files

http://www.mediafire.com/?317ea53a883288d

http://www.mediafire.com/?z6aw8j7997qa7j9

Launch and import them to registry

Restart your PC

Now,open RUN and type

regedit and click ok

go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BFE

Right click on it-permissions

Click on ADD and type

Everyone and click ok

Now Click on Everyone

Below you have permission for users

Select full control and click ok

Now,open RUN and type

services.msc and click ok

start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service

You mcafee firewall should be ON

Good luck

I'm trying to avoid uninstalling anything or wiping my computer to default settings personally...how do I create a safety restore point? I don't necessarily know how to do it.

Thanks for the replies by the way.

It isn't working for me. After importing the files and following the steps, I can't find anything for "start base filtering engine service and then windows firewall service." Any help would be appreciated.

Click on start, open RUN and type

services.msc and click ok

Check for these services

Base filtering engine

Windows firewall

You need to right click on them -and start the base filtering engine first and then the firewall service

Good luck

Neither BAse Filtering Engine or Windows Firewall is listed when the services tab is brought up...Is there any other way that I can fix this firewall problem other than the steps you gave?

I did restart my computer after importing the registry keys, just after rebooting those two services still weren't available on the list. Am I doing something wrong? Could you clarify the steps of the following:

Download both the registry files

http://www.mediafire.com/?317ea53a883288d

http://www.mediafire.com/?z6aw8j7997qa7j9

Launch and import them to registry

I could be possibly doing it wrong..I thank you for the support.

Once I downloaded them, they came up onto the little window where recent downloads are shown. I then opened them and they came up in notepad. What do I do to alter this?

So you just opened it via notepad :P

Do this

Right click on text file

Click on OPEN WITH

Select Choose default program

Click on Browse

Now Point the location to

C:/WINDOWS/REGEDIT

Click ok

Now you should get the UAC prompt, click YES and follow the instructions provided above.

Do this for both the text files

Good luck
