I posted this on monday, and haven't been able to remove the virus I have on my laptop. I take the computer to work, and can't do that until I get this removed. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/432967 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

I'm still having issues, and do need help. Unfortunately, I'm leaving and won't have my laptop up to run the requested programs until this morning. I will do that as soon as I get back. I'll give you a quick rundown of what I'm experiencing so far.

I was on the web and noticed it slowed way down. I closed it out and reopened it and noticed my homepage had changed. Also, when I tried to use google search, I was redirected to a totally different site. My AVG, and all Windows security programs including the firewall were turned off and I wasn't able to get them to turn back on. I was able to download and install AVG 2012 and Comodo, and according to those programs, they are running correctly. I did a few initial scans with MBAM and SAS, and both found trojans that were supposedly removed, but the issue continues.
If I turn the Wifi off and "Block All" through Comodo, the computer runs normally with no issues, but as soon as I get on the net, it slows down. I can look at my active connections thru Comodo, and at times I'll have up to 100 connections going out of my computer so I'm assuming I've got malware using my computer. I've run these scans in both regular mode and safe mode, and they all come up clean-
AVG anti virus and rootkit
ESET
MBAM
SAS
Avira
TDSSKILLER
Spybot

None of the scans find anything, but I still have the problem. I also still cannot turn on any of the Windows security programs. I do not have a Windows CD, as the laptop did not come with one. It does have a "Recovery" drive, but I've never used it. As I said, I will get the required scans done as soon as I can and post them here.

Ok, I tried to do what you asked, and heres where I'm at. I was able to exit out of Comodo. I disabled AVG Resident Shield, and ran Combofix but quickly got the error message that AVG was still running. So I went into Safe mode and uninstalled AVG. Went back to normal mode and saw that AVG is gone from my program list, and all shortcuts are gone. I went to run Combo and again got the message the AVG is still running. So now I'm booting into Safe mode to run Combo to see if that makes a difference.

Is there anyway that the malware could be connected to my AVG program? I've received some error messages from AVG recently, and now its doing what I explained above.

Thanks! I'll be awaiting your reply.

ON EDIT- I was unable to run Combofix in safe mode also; I get the warning that AVG is still running even though its supposedly not on my machine. I did run the Security program, and here is the log-

AVG leaves some traces in the registry.

Run ComboFix in real mode and ignore the AVG message.

I have Combofix running. Its been on the blue screen for 30 minutes now. It says that it should take 10 minutes and longer for heavily infected machines. How long should I let it continue?

Thanks!

I walked away from the laptop while the scan was still showing that it was preparing, and when I came back, the computer had restarted for some reason and it was installing Windows Updates. When that finished a box came up that said something like "The recycle bin is corrupted, do you want to erase". I picked no, and since there was no log, I reran Combofix. This time it worked pretty quickly, and when it was done, the same question about the recycle bin came up. It completed the log, but when I tried to open Comodo to restart the firewall, a box came up that said, "Illegal operation on a registry key that is set to be deleted". Now, if I click on any icon, I get that same pop up box, and nothing will open. Also, there is a new icon on the desktop title "The Internet".

What would you like me to do?

Run ComboFix on more time. Fix the recycle bin issue.

The second time that the box came up stating that the recycle bin was corrupted and if I wanted to clean it, I clicked on "Yes", so I think that is ok. I'll run Combofix again and see what happens. I did get a log from the second scan, but again I can't get on the internet to post it. I thought about putting it on a flash drive and loading it on my desktop, but I'm worried about transferring a virus.

Will let you know what the second scan does.

Thanks for you time.

Also, I noticed that Comodo is still showing around 80 active connections.

I'm able to get on the internet, and all of my icons work correctly right now but I still have the malware running when I get on the internet. At one point, I had 200 active connections showing "TCP" or "UDP" on comodo. I went ahead and downloaded AVG since I deleted it yesterday, and I've disconnected from the internet until I hear from you on my next step.

Thanks!

I looked at different programs and noticed that Windows Firewall and Defender are still turned off and I can't turn them back on. Also, when I went to the Security Center, it showed AVG as the Virus program, but that it was turned off also. Looking at AVG itself, its showing that it is active, so I'm not really trusting that right now. I started Avast, and now the Security Center is showing that I have an active AV program, and Comodo is the active firewall.

So the only issues I'm having right now is the malware using my computer and the Security Center not active.
