Freezing, Start Up, and Shut Down Issues

I guess I'll start off by saying what kind of computer I have, if that helps. It's a Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop running Windows 7.

For the last week or so, its been having these freezing problems out of nowhere. Literally, out of nowhere. I didn't download anything to prompt the problems or do anything special. I was doing the same thing I do every other day when it just froze for the first time. When it freezes, everything freezes to the point where I can't even do CTRL+ALT+DELETE to shut it down, I have to hold down the power button. When it starts up, it goes through the first few screens fine, but always stops on the Welcome screen. Sometimes it will sit there for about 15-20 minutes, and other times it'll never leave that screen and I have to shut it down with the button again. The few times I've been able to restart it the usual way, by clicking restart, the shut down will take about 15-20 minutes, too. It's gotten to the point where it takes me about 2 hours every time I start up the computer to be able to use it, because even after it starts up, it freezes immediately. Either that, or I'll have to sit around waiting forever for the icons in the tray to finish loading up, or even the images for the icons on the desktop to appear. I've tried booting up in Safe Mode, but it even freezes when using that. I've done a few System Restores, and they've had no effect. In fact, I tried to do another one in Safe Mode this morning and it now says I don't have any restore points saved. Somehow they've been wiped.

During the periods after all the freezing and start up issues when it finally starts working fine, I've used CCleaner to clean my cookies and fix issues with the Registry many times, and I've scanned it with ParetoLogic PC Health Advisor to see if it could help. Nothing they've done seems to make a difference. I've defragmented everything a few different times, and it also hasn't helped. I've scanned it with TrendMicro HouseCall and Webroot AntiVirus and neither of them have found any issues.

I'm really at a loss for what could be wrong, whether it's a virus issue or a software/hardware issue, or what. It started happening for no apparent reason, and it's getting very frustrating. It works absolutely fine after I finally get it going, but knowing that I can't restart my computer for updates or that it's going to go haywire when I try to get on in the morning is annoying. I really hope someone can help and figure out what's wrong. Thank you!
