I am doing a repair for a client whom has run into some issues with the internet after removing one of those 2012 viruses. It seems that all of the settings are correct, no proxies, no ip addresses, but for some reason when I run the FSS I get that the local host is blocked. I have reset the Hosts File to default, have made sure that the windows firewall is working (it was disabled and I got it fixed by adding registry & permissions to MpsSvc and BFE),. Currently running Microsoft Security Essentials as the Anti-Virus. Mcafee was installed and removed via Control Panel, and the same goes for Avast. Malware Bytes does not find any issues with search, neither does Super Anti Spyware.

Here is the Log of the FSS and Mini Toolbox, Please let me know what is it that I can do to fix this issue. Thanks in advance.

What is: "IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.7(Preferred)"? Does this mean static? Or is the computer setup to obtain IP automatically?

I'm not sure if this is connected but I can see this error:

The device, \Device\Harddisk0\DR0, has a bad block

I suggest running chkdsk.

Thanks for the Reply Ropnjessi, When I looked under the IPv4 Settings there were no Ip addresses listed, you are correct in that it is obtaining the IP automatically.

What do you think is causing the Local Host to be "blocked"?

This is perfectly normal setting.

I believe that I should also mention that I have tried the Win 7 Microsoft Fix it for Winsock, also have tried all the CMD's for winsock and have had no luck, guessing that may not be the issue. Do you guys have any suggestions?

Well I would try a few more things:

1.Assign a static IP other then the one aquired dynamically.
2.Ping 127.0.0.1
3.Start up in safe mode with networking and see if it connects (both ways dynamic and static)
4.Open the host file in notepad and verify everything is correct.

Maybe something here will lead you on the right path.....

broni | I am having the client run Check Disk and will report back to you when I get the results.

One more thing...
Since you uninstalled McAffe only through Control Panel make sure you run this cleaning tool: http://majorgeeks.com/McAfee_Consumer_Product_Removal_Tool_d5420.html

The McAfee removal tool was run and it did not cause any changes. I've also tried to run into safemode with networking and that also did not work.

I believe we may have overlooked the fact that Farbar Service Scanner, says local host blocked. I've looked at others logs and it says local host is accessible. Can we try to fix that? I think it may fix the internet.

Thanks guys for all of your suggestions and help.

When you were in safe mode, how were you connected? Wireless or ethernet?

Have you ran chkdsk yet?

Also...

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

Thanks for the reply, I have run check disk and it said that it was unable to fix errors while the computer was running, selected for it to run while the computer boots and it never ran. I will post the gmer logs when I get a chance to access the computer again. I would also like to mention that I am able to connect to my wireless network but I am unable to access the internet. once again I believe it is because the Local host is blocked. All of my other computers and devices are able to connect fine.

Thanks again and I hope to get back to you soon.

I suspect that computer is still infected.

There is still the issue of hard drive errors.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28744&hl=hard+drive+diagnostic)
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable.
For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnostic

Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps HERE
