Also, i've tried that thing where you go into Run>sfc/scannow or whatever, but when we had the PC shop help put my new computer together, and the issue of my hard drive came up, they couldn't use my OS disk, either, so they used their own, and I don't have access to that disc for when the scan asks for it. I've tried using my own, but it doesn't work.
I've gone into regedit as well and checked on the start menu speed, it's at the default 400.
the only recent programs I've downloaded were Malwarebytes about a month ago, a lego 3d program from the official lego site about a week and a half ago, and updates to all of my antivirus and anti-spyware programs earlier this week.
I run Spybot, Malwarebytes, and Avira antivir, and I keep them updated at least once a month, if not every week. i realize that's not daily, but they are all up to date, and constantly running.
I've checked my process list, and there's nothing suspicious.
I've checked my msconfig startup and system processes, and nothing suspicious is enabled anymore.
I've tried system restore, but it doesn't help. At first it invalidated some .dll file and said it wasn't a valid windows image, so I un-restored it, but everything went back to being glitchy.
I did a drive check, or whatever it's called when you right click on your C: drive, go to properties, and check the disc itself. Or rather, I assume I did, as I told it to do it the next time the computer started up, and the next startup was pretty slow.
I visit the same websites all the time, and I'm one of the two most technologically savvy people in my family. If I can't fix it, we call my IT professional uncle for help, but usually I can fix the problems we get on our family computers. I know to never download anything suspicious, and I always google websites people link to me, downloads I'm not sure about, etc, and I always try to stick to safe websites for downloads anyway. If I don't trust the site, i just don't download whatever program it is.
I recently helped fix a nasty bug on my fiance's computer that somehow got through his anti-virus software, and suggested that he add something besides just the microsoft security essentials, as I never view standard-issue antivirus software as "good enough". That was probably 2 or 3 weeks ago though, so I doubt it's that.
I can run all of my programs and such, nothing's disabled by a virus that I can tell, it's just that I can't access my start menu without a ton of headache and trying to click fast enough, and typing in any text boxes is a real biznitch because the box gets deselected every half-second.
I've spent two days trying to fix it, and I can't, because everyone I've found online with a similar issue resolved it in ways that haven't helped me. I don't have time or money to take it to a PC shop again, especially when I already know they're going to just wipe it. That seems to be everyone's solution out here, and I think that's just lazy and stupid. nevermind trying to actually fix the problem, no, we're going to charge you $100+ to wipe your computer and delete all your precious data because we don't know how to fix the problem and we aren't going to bother trying.
I have no intentions of wiping my computer, I just want to get rid of this headache.
