This PC I am working on I just recently reinstall OS, web browsers, drivers and Norton Internet 2011. I wanted to add Malwarebytes. I downloaded version from C-net. MBAM installed fine until it downloads database which is about a 7 Meg file and then this pops up.

An error has occurred. Please report this error code to our support team.
PROGRAM_ERROR_LOAD_DATABASE (2, 2, CreateSDK)
The system cannot fine the file specified

I have downloaded MBAM from Bleeping computers and one other site with basically same results. Sometime it reads corrupt file, download again. I have tried renaming file and installing while running in safe mode. Version of MBAM I tried last was 1.51.2.1300.

The Malwarebytes board postings had some similar problems; they offered a batch file to correct issue. It did not work for me.
Does anyone know of workaround for problem or should I fear an infection? Norton had no problem installing on this PC; XP pro SP3
Thanks

If it were me...I would be thinking "infection" but...I'm no expert.

Looking at the Google results...it seems that others with this problem are in agreement with my thought processes.

I will move this to the Am I Infected forum, where the more knowledgeable will attempt to assist you :).

This is how i fixed the issue

Install mbam in the PC

Install same version of malwarebytes on a different PC.

Go to

C:/program files/malwarebytes

Copy the mbam.exe file to the infected PC and paste it in the same folder

Now run it

Good luck

PC # 1 MBAM working fine and PC # 2 MBAM installed but shows error; will not open.
I did not copy MBAM.exe file over to PC# 2, I copied rules.ref from PC#1 and was able to open and scan PC#2. MBAM showed no infections on PC#2. I ran update for MBAM on PC#2 showed 7+ meg file downloading and then same error code. But again I could replace rules.ref file from PC # 1 and MBAM would open and run scan.
Ideas on the rules.ref file?

If PC 1 and PC 2 has same version of mbam then rules.ref should work

Download mbam uninstaller

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam-clean.exe

Run it ,reboot,install mbam again

See if update works
