Laptop Screen Appearing Black and Distorted

I've got an Acer Aspire 7720 laptop which, until a couple of days ago, was working fine. Upon a restart, the screen came up black with lines running up and down and a strange white fog swirling around. The computer itself seems to be running normally, it's just the screen which seems to malfunctioning. I'm guessing something went internally but I'm not sure what, if someone might have an idea what the problem is or any possible solutions that'd be a great help!

I took a picture as well, here's what it looks like when it's booted up:
