Hi everyone

I'm having a few problems with my wife's laptop, after finding a few trojans in the temp folder then having AVG tell me the infection was no longer there when told to heal/remove.

I cleared all my temp folders via the control panel clean up, then cleaned up via Spybot, and then ran AVG scan a couple of times yesterday and here are the results

First Scan, December 5 2011
Two infections found
infection 1
"Object name";"C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\mrxsmb.sys"
"Detection name";"Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic14.CACY"
"Result";"Object is white-listed (critical/system file that should not be removed)"

infection 2
"Object name";"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mrxsmb.sys"
"Detection name";"Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic14.CACY"
"Result";"Object is white-listed (critical/system file that should not be removed)"

Second Scan December 5 2011
One infection found
"Object name";"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mrxsmb.sys"
"Detection name";"Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic14.CACY"
"Result";"Object is white-listed (critical/system file that should not be removed)"

First Scan Today December 6 2011
One infection found
"Object name";"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\mrxsmb.sys"
"Detection name";"Trojan horse BackDoor.Generic14.CACY"
"Result";"Object is white-listed (critical/system file that should not be removed)"

None of the issues I encountered via AVG Resident shield are occurring (assumption is they were removed with the temp files, but they will reappear with time if I cannot get rid of the Sys32 infection)

Can you people help me get rid of this??

Any reason why AVG didn't stop this?
Is there a free Antivirus that you would recommend over this, or something to use as well?

Its my wife's computer, the dodgiest thing she has done (and probably where it came from) is google image search for tattoo ideas, and go to a couple of the sites that she liked.

Thanks for any help you may provide

Glenn

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
