Note: To avoid confusion, I would like to mention that this is not the same computer that has been discussed in my previous threads.

I'm borrowing my sister's computer as a 'backup', and when I checked windows update, I found that the most recent update check was 08/26/2010,
and that not even service pack 1 had been installed.

When I checked the update history, I see dozens of failed attempts to download this software:
Windows update software 7.4.7600.226
Accompanied by this error code: 800F081F

After manually upgrading to service pack 2, Windows Update says it can't check for updates until it gets updated itself, but the update always fails.
Is there a way to manually update "windows update"? or maybe use microsoft update instead?

Hello,

Have a look at the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

Regards,

Thanks.
I won't be able to try it though, because the service pack update made her computer run slower, and now she doesn't want me doing anything to it. <_<
