My computer caught some pretty nasty stuff and now pop-ups are appearing all over. Plus tons of programs are being installed for reason, which causes my system to lag. I wondering if i can get some assistance in removing these programs. I've tried running ad-aware and spybot but unsuccessfully failed to removed these things. I would appreciate the help...

Hello,

This is a nasty log and actually it doesn't suprise me at all, because you have no antivirus and firewall installed.

So, I want you to install an antivirus and firewall first!!

AVG, AntiVirŪ OR Avast are good FREE antivirus.
Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decrease the reliability of it seriously!
Zonealarm, Agnitum Outpost Free OR Kerio are FREE firewalls.

Understanding and using firewalls

Let you antivirus perform a full scan and let it delete everything it is finding.

REBOOT afterwards!!!
After reboot..

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log made in NORMAL mode, because above one was made in safe mode, so it doesn't show what is still active or not.
Then we'll deal with the other infections if still present after running those scans.

Hello, first of all, i would like to thank you for responding to my post. Secondly, i want to address the problem that i cannot run hijackthis in normal mode. Everytime i open hijackthis to run it, it flashes once and then the program dissappears. Sometimes, it wouldn't even flash...basically, it opens and closes on it's own within less than a second. But if i opened and run hijackthis in safe mode, then i would be able to run the program. I am currently downloading the antivirus and firewall that you recommended. In the meantime, do you know why i wasn't able to open my hijackthis in normal mode?

The reason why you can't open hijackthis in normal mode is because of the big amount malware present on your system.

So follow the rest of my steps, scan with your antivirus if possible, also perform the vundofix I asked you and try to scan with hijackthis again afterwards in normal mode.
If that still doesn't work, post a log from safe mode then.

Hello,

We got rid of Vundo, got rid of other malware Avast probably dealed with, but it looks like you managed to install new malware again.

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

* Go to start > controlpanel > software and uninstall next programs:

Network Monitor
NewDotNet (New.net)

You are using Download Accelerator - DAP Be informed that it delivers popup/popunder ads, and tracks your internet usage. You can find safer alternatives here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php?cat=dlman#dlman
I suggest you remove it as well.

REBOOT after uninstalling! Important!

After reboot,

* Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

* Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
Do not use it yet.

Please download Ewido anti-malware ; it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates
Don't run it yet.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

Hi,

I see you are running Teatimer.
I suggest you to disable it because it can interfere with the changes you'll make on your system.
When everything is done and your log is clean again, you can enable it again.
If teatimer gives you a warning afterwards that some changes were made, allow this instead of blocking it.
How to disable TeaTimer during HijackThis Cleanup
Then, Download ResetTeaTimer.bat.
Double click ResetTeaTimer.bat to remove all entries set by TeaTimer.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL,ClientStartup -s
O23 - Service: Command Service (cmdService) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\S2V2aW4\command.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

sc delete cmdservice < click enter/ok >

Then delete next files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Kevin\Application Data\tvmcwrd.dll
C:\Program Files\RSNet <== folder
C:\WINDOWS\delprot.ini
C:\WINDOWS\deskbar.ini
C:\WINDOWS\drsmartload.dat
C:\WINDOWS\RSEDNClientUninstaller.exe
C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
C:\WINDOWS\switchagreement.txt
C:\WINDOWS\system32\data.~
C:\WINDOWS\system32\search.html
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuclient.dat
C:\WINDOWS\uninstall_nmon.vbs

It looks like you were also dealing with Look2me, so not sure if everything this infection caused is restored properly.
That's why i want you to run next:

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application..".
Then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

First of all, delete next files, looks like some leftovers from a previous HSA infection, however they are 0 bytes, but you may delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ntkd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netwd.exe

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. The fix will start. Please don't use your keyboard while the fix is running! Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. When asked, Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Glad I could help.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates, so visit asap: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to update to SP2!

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...xp/iesecxp.mspx

Also visit this Free Online Scanner for PC Health and Safety

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
