Media Player Wil Not Play Video

Hi I've got a problem. Whenever i play video in my media player i get this
MPLAYER2 caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> at 0000:b011cd0b.

I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling but it doesn't help. I've tried useing the default media player and real as well. it doesn't matter the version this always happens. It would be great if someone would give me a hand. I'm useing win 98. Please help this has been a thorn in my side for quite some time now.
