Hello,

I have a problem. My cpu is opening and running fine; however,
my screen is only 1/2 sized. Screen is centered, text is normal sized as
if nothing was wrong, can't move mouse outside of visual 1/2 screen
(can't move mouse into black outside border).
Never seen or heard of this before, please help.
Thank you very much!

Have you tried adjusting your monitor setting?

I'm a computer idiot. I don't have any idea how to do that, I
tried right clicking mouse on desktop and checking the settings.
Everything seems normal.
Thank you for your help.

I know what it is, but am not sure how to fix it:

Someone decided to pull A prank on you (most likely) and installed an old school kiddie program that has many options to fool around with your settings, including the mouse in A box prank. I cannot remember the name of the program or how to get rid of it, but I figured i'd at least point out A possibility. I also know that with these programs there are hotkeys that you can hit to disable them (whether its A single key or multiple keys depends on who installed it on your system).

Hope this helps.

Other details that might help analyze problem:
* 2 year old laptop - hp pavilion ze5300
* Recently had spyware removed
* Deleted extra programs, like music things I never signed up for.
* IP 4 processor MS Windows XP
* Never a problem in past

Ok. Probibly need to reinstall the video drivers.
Go to the device manager and select your display adapter. Then choose the properties. It will give you the option to uninstall the drivers. Make sure you have you CD with that notebook's drivers in the CD. Boot yor computer and it will prompt you to install the adapter. Choose to select the device and not the auto detect option. When the menu pops up select Have Disk.

Acklan,

Thank you for helping. I went to system information, tv mode options,
screen size, etc. but can't find any kind of monitor settings.

Wlkingman,

Thank you for the info. I think it has to be a virus because even though I
have little cpu knowledge, I still use them all the time and have never
seen this.

I know they exist though. I was at A friends house once and his computer had the same problem. Upon me looking at it and exclaiming "what the..." another friend started laughing. He then disabled it and explained to me what happened. I never asked questions about it though, so I can't really give any helpful information about it.

I know yousaid you are using a laptop and this question may seem a little dumb but are you using the screen that is attached to the laptop (LCD Screen) or are you using an external CRT type monitor?

I went to device manager and display adapter. I was
going to delete "RADEON IGP 345M" but I'm not home
where my discs are so was afraid that if I do this, my
monitor will completely shut down.
I also went to site that acklan gave me link for and
I'm also asking question on that forum (they had one
reference to black borders but that was only talking
of problems w/ screen almost full sized but an old monitor).
I'll keep track of both forums and will let everyone
know what works as soon as something does.
Thanks

Thorxp,
I'm using my regular flip top monitor, not a plugged in seperate one.
No such thing as a dumb question when you are helping someone.

Acklan,

Problem solved!!! Very close to the advice you gave me about going to device player.
Instead of deleting and reloading w/ cd, I was able to do an online update. The update
installed and after reset, full screen.
Thank you very much.
