Hi all,
I have had a few BSOD on a secondary networked PC I use for some add on apps. I am pretty sure they are hardware related, but I was looking at the Event Log and it is reporting multiple errors connected with the Service Control Manager. The text is as follows :-

"The WinPcap Packet Driver (NPF) service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified."

The log show this has occurred 77,645 times in the last 24 hours !!

There are approx 700 entries of :-

"The Computer Browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start."

I run McAfee AV and Firewall.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Andrew

Don't worry about the event log. Let's concentrate on the bsod.

Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

Your bsod's are all over the place. Do you recall what preceded them (new hw, sw, virus, etc)? Multiple and varied bsod's can be caused by a number of things, ranging from malware (most common) to a bad motherboard. Depending on your answer to my question, I'd suggest you start by posting in the Am I Infected forum to rule in (or out) malware.

Hi Allan,

Well about two weeks ago I made a major HW change. I basically moved my Win7 installation onto a new motherboard and CPU. I did prepare the HDD before hand. I used the Windows sysprep.exe facility to prepare the Win 7 system to be moved. When it's started in the new m/b etc, it starts like a First Run installation with basic drivers and I then installed the new M/b drivers etc. It's been reasonably stable until these last few days when the BSOD's have been a bit more frequent, especially shortly after startup in the morning.

After changing motherboards you should ALWAYS do a clean install. I read what you said about the sysprep, but for my money anything other than a new install can result in precisely the issues you are experiencing. If it was my system I'd do a clean install (including deleting and recreating at least the system partition). Also, you clearly should have mentioned this in your first post.

Yep my bad !

I had hoped to get away with avoiding the reinstall and the sysprep seemed to have worked. But, as you suggest I could fiddle and fiddle and never get to the bottom of these failures. I'll bite the bullet and do a clean install. I need to fit a new cooler anyway, so may as well do it while I have the thing in bits.

Thanks for your help anyway, and sorry if I have wasted your time. Wasn't my intention I assure you.

Regards
Andrew

No problem - good luck with the new install. And you're most welcome.
