I recently got the cloud 2012 virus and deleted it off my computer (I just plain old deleted the program, then ran avira which doesn't see anything). But now my internet doesn't work (even though my wireless card shows as connected) , so I looked here and ran the farber service scanner, which says:
IpSec Service is not running. Checking configuration.
Checking Start type: Attention! Unable to open IpSec register key. The service key does not exist.
Checking ImagePath. Attention! Unable to open IpSec register key. The service key does not exist.

then later on it says:
Connection status
Localhost is blocked
There is no connection to network
Attempt to access Google IP returned error. Other errors
Attempt to access Yahoo IP returned error. Other errors

(I think the rest is irrelevant b/c they say __ is OK or is legit; let me know if I need to type it all up though)
From what I've read here, I think maybe I have to import the ipsec register key onto my comp but I'm not really sure how - I compared files named ipsec on my housemate's computer and found one (napipsec) in system32 that was only on her comp, which I burned to a disc and copied to my computer, to no avail; I also found a whole bunch in the folder c:\i386, which doesn't even exist on my computer - should I copy that whole folder to my computer, or is there something else I should be doing?

(I've already tried system restore to several points but, as usual, it doesn't help because my computer says no changes have been made. I also made sure 'use a proxy server' isn't checked in inernet options).

thanks so much

I should have mentioned, I also tried kaspersky tdsskiller, which found 6 threats but skipped them all (they were all "Unsigned file"; service: BsStor, service: BsUDF, service: MCSTRM, service MREMP50 service MRESP50 and service Scutum50).

Please download Farbar Service Scanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
  • Check "Include All Files" option.
  • Press "Scan".
  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

It looks like you have one registry key missing/corrupted.

Please download SystemLook from one of the links below and save it to your Desktop.
Download Mirror #1
Download Mirror #2

64-bit users go HERE
  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Vista\Win 7 users:: Right click on SystemLook.exe, click Run As Administrator
  • Copy the content of the following box and paste it into the main textfield:
    :reg
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ipsec /s

  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

The following step involves registry editing. Make sure you create restore point first.

Download XP.zip file from here: http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/files/download/9-registry-network-keys/
Unzip the file.
You'll find three files inside.
Right click on ipsec.reg file, click "Merge".
Allow registry merge.
Restart computer and see if internet works.

It looks like you still may be infected.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.
