My modem keeps dropping my internet connection. It will happen like 6 or 7 times in a row, over a period of 10-15 minutes, and then be fine for a while. It usually picks the connection right back up.

Do you think this is a modem issue or an ISP issue. My gut tells me modem, and I should just go get a new one, but I just wanted a second opinion

Thanks

I would check the coax from the modem to the junction on the edge of the house. If no break are in the shielding have your cable company do a resistance test from the hose to the pole/utility box at the servitude. Rodents like squrils like to chew on the plastic covering and the break in the insulation causes the signal to degrade. Also check to see if the grounding block on the outside coax is attached. A poor ground can be the cause of distorted signal.

Ahah! The same problem that I had when I installed my cable modem in my house!

In my case it was signal degradation caused by too many splitters. To fix it, I went into the attic and split the cable where it came into the house (with a good 2 head splitter) - ran one side to all the TV's and the other STRAIGHT TO THE CABLE MODEM. It fixed all of the problems immediately!

Since then I've upgraded all my connections to gold plated one's (because of the humidity in the attic) and I believe that this has enhanced the reliability of the connection.

Thanks all. Apparantly, it was the power supply from the modem. It was not working well, they replaced the entire modem, and I am back and faster than ever!

Thanks
