Well not exactly... and that is the problem. Microsoft Office and Photoshop, both excellent applications, can be very expensive. What do you do if you are struggling student or just can not afford either of these programs? Here are two excellent alternatives for you that are absolutely free.

Both programs are open source, and are are almost, if not just as good, as their commercial counterparts. These two programs are OpenOffice and Gimp and they are completely FREE.

OpenOffice is comparable to the Microsoft Office suite. It consists of a word processor, a spreadsheet, a presentation tool, and a drawing tool. All of these applications have built in database support, and best of all, are fully compatible with the Microsoft Office file formats.

Gimp is an open source product comparable to Photoshop. It is an image manipulation program that allows you to do such tasks as photo retouching, image composition, and image authoring.

If you have a tight budget or would like to try something new, then I would definitely recommend these two programs. If you try them, let us know what you think in the forums.
