Hello,

I wish to thank everyone who has helped with my nasty virus infection. I recently posted my issue in the malaware sub-forum. The infection has been removed. Unfortunately, I still cannot access the internet. I was told to bring my issue to this sub forum. Here is my initial thread for background information.

I ran the farbar scanner to help speed things up with troubleshooting my problem. I am going to include the log file. I also get an error message when I try to start the DHCP service.

Did you check if Dhcp Service is running and set to automatic startup?

Hello,

Thanks for your prompt reply! The dhcp service is stopped. I tried to start it manually but got an error. I tried to set to start automatically, again I got an error. I'm not in front of this computer so I don't have the error number, it was. Either 1076? Not sure off the top of my head.

Make sure, your computer is set to obtain IP address automatically.
1. Go Start>Settings>Control Panel (Vista/7 users: Start>Control Panel)
2. Double click Network Connections (Vista/7 users: Network and Sharing Center)
3. Vista/7 users - From the list of tasks on the left, click Manage network connections.
4. For a wired network connection, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties.
For a wireless network connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then select Properties.
5. From the General tab (Vista/7 users: Networking tab), click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), make sure it is checked, and then click Properties
6. Click Obtain an IP Address Automatically, and then click OK.

If that doesn't work...
Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 1 minute. At the same time disconnect ethernet cable as well.
Reconnect everything.
Restart computer.

If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista and 7, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

In Command Prompt window, type in following commands, and hit Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista and 7), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

At Command Prompt, type in:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml (doesn't work in Vista and 7)
Restart computer, and check again.

If that doesn't work...
Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF) (doesn't work in Vista and 7):
http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix#Mirrors.2Fdownload_locations.2C_and_articles

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file. Likely not!

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at bottom to go to the second DAF page.

Here, one at a time, do the below:

Reinstall BITS
Reinstall Windows Firewall
Repair Permissions
Reset networking

Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

Restart computer.

Thanks again for all the help going back and forth.

I have tried all your recommendations above.

I still cannot access the Internet.

I do not get the limited connectivity message.

The DHCP service is running again. Looks like some repairs have made some difference.

However, I do not have any IP listed in the properties of Network Connection Screen.

When I bring up a command prompt and type ipconfig, I only get "Windows IP Configuration" nothing else!

Any other tricks?

Re-run Farbar Service Scanner and MiniToolbox and post new logs.

I forgot to mention that there was not local area network connection 3, so I recreated one using the wizard. This entry is now numbered at local area network 2 for some odd reason.

I think something is missing from MiniToolbox log.
Please re-run it with only this item checked:
List IP configuration

Yes, I'm not sure what has happened, pretty sure I did run the IP config check but here it is again.

Yeah I can see Local Area Connection 2 but with no settings at all.

By now we fixed all of your technical issues so it should be just a matter of setting LAN correctly.

Let's try steps listed below one more time.
If it doesn't work you should call your ISP and they should be able to enter correct settings.

I use a router, so I dunno why its not picking up an IP address. It was working just fine when the virus was detected, but stopped during the various scans. Perhaps I will try the wireless card in this PC.

Thanks again for your help! Hope you had a great long weekend!
