My brother-in-law had one of his guys build my computer. The result is a very fast but intermittently unstable computer. Assuming I am working with a software conflict, I've tried uninstalling 3rd party programs, and daily use "Reimage" to try again on a stable platform. Reimage cited these programs as having at some point failed:

Oblivion (A game)
razermambasystray (tried using just the drivers, currently uninstalled. Using simple HP mouse.)
ctaudsvc
msiinstaller
windows installer 3.1
win crash logger

Perhaps none of those are even valid now, since one 3rd party program had admittedly can conflict installation.

ESET Security scans clean, and I uninstalled Malwarebytes but that had found nothing. Reimage finds no virus. This computer has not been much on the Web.

I am not disappointed, BTW, rather intrigued.

Would someone guide me towards a method of further investigation?

I feel ready to study computing. I think I should test the hardware deeply, but am not experienced. Also since I am using this computer now, I am unsure a professional tech would find anything wrong.

Glad to further post any info but have no idea what would be helpful.

Oblivion, like Skyrim, isn't exactly a bastion of program stability. Have you tried other games? Have you ran other diagnostic programs? Does your computer blue screen, shut off, reset entirely, or just the programs crash?

Memtest or Windows Memory Diagnostic will help stress the memory. For some reason, my motherboard will not run with Memtest, so I use the Windows Memory Diagnostic. You would probably need to run this overnight for best results. If going the WMD route, go into the options once it running after you restart, and use extended and set the pass count to 0. This will result in the diagnostic running until you shut off the application.
Prime95 will stress your CPU and case cooling. Speedfan can help monitor the CPU temperatures during the test, which should last an hour or more.
FurMark will stress your graphics card.

What are your current hardware specifications?

Question: On the motherboard I got there are 4 fan connectors. 1 x CPU Fan connector(s) (4 -pin), 2 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (4 -pin) and 1 x Power Fan connector(s) (3 -pin). The power supply I am going to use is "Rosewill HIVE Series HIVE-650 650W". It has its own one fan and is not using motherboard for fan speed regulation. My question is, can I use that available 3 pin motherboard connector to hook one of my 3 pin fans to regulate its RPM and how?

Also how much RPM do I need in the back (exhaust) fan.

Oblivion is pretty good now after nearly a half decade of patching, but wholeheartedly agree with the above idea and suggestions around stress testing. If nothing else it allows you to control what part you're stressing and thus isolate the faulty component if there is one.

The problem with Oblivion and Skyrim, along with most other Bethesda games based on Gamebryo or a variant thereof, is that they are always buggy and prone to issues as the games are played. I'm not saying they are bad games or people shouldn't play them, but they aren't very stable.

Thank you for the program names for the stress tests. Second Life plays fine and I'll be dancing and I just lock up; mouse freeze and keyboard useless. This can even happen on the desktop, and commonly somehow associated to USB. If I run Oblivion with no MS Updates it will be some long hours before I crash, I don't even care if Oblivion crashes to desktop (been playing modified TES games a long while). These problems happen on the whole system.

I was playing with Process Explorer and found audiodg does not have a file handle, and I wonder if perhaps things occasionally are trying to use it's handle, but usually make calls some other way. I suspect the handle got lost uninstalling the handy software the builder put on this:

How did your system fare with the stress tests? If this is a system freeze, that would be more of a hardware issue, CTD's are more indicative of software conflicts. I assume you have fully updated drivers. If you are getting blue screens, are you getting memory dumps as seen here. Your reliability monitor may have additional technical information.

I haven't done testing because I was trying to discover if audiodg should have a valid handle. My reason was process explorer seems to be passive software but if some program needed something from audiodg info per it's handle that could be a critical audio thing. Totally guessing and no luck finding out about if audiodg even should have a handle.

Mostly (about stress testing) my last computer came with a broken pin mounter for the video card and testing for that was hard because of locking freezes like I have now. HP took that computer back.

I probably should re-install windows from the disc, but I am afraid I will lose my peripherals due to inexperience. My past computers since windows 95 used D drive to configure themselves.

I'll try those tests now. TY too

editing ;Procep needed admin rights to get the handle, think audiodg is a protected process. Well then

editing(2) ;I reinstalled my video software with no added functions and seem stable Today. Thanks, it was that commendation to have all the updates, which I knew I was updated, but worried it. Still in 'debug mode' going to do the stress tests and am reading about internals. Ciao
