I have a windows xp computer and sometimes it stops at startup. It's stops in the beginning so there is no windows logo visible. Just a black screen.

My hard drive model is: WDC-WD5000AAKB-00H8A.
EVERY S.M.A.R.T parameter is above threshold. So it should be healthy.

I have tested hard drive with CHKDSK:
PASSED

I have tested hard drive with Western Digital lifeguard:
PASSED

What is going on here?

Well...not to be overly obvious...but Dell, HP, etc. all make desktops as well as laptops.

So the question about manufacturer/model...applies to any system unless it is custom/self-built.

Do you have a MS Genuine XP install CD?

If so...try running the fixmbr command.

Black Screen (fixmbr) - http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;314503

My machine is custom built. So there is no obvious model mark here.

This is really upsetting :ranting: :ranting:
My computer crashed again in start.
This time CHKDSK founded some errors in filesystem and repaired them.

Also in my event viewer is this ANNOIYNG error report. It comes very often there.
Error report is:

Error number: 1517
Event source: Userenv
Event Class: Warning
Date: 26.11.2011
Time: 3:47:38

Description:
Windows was recording to user LMPR-CO-OPS\LMPR, kun some application or service used still registry during logoff. The memory reserved by users registry is not freed. Registry loading will be removed then registry is no longer used.

This is often caused by services using users account. Define service to run by Network service or Local Service account.

Same in finnish here:
Windows tallensi käyttäjän LMPR-CO-OPS\LMPR rekisterin, kun jokin sovellus tai palvelu käytti yhä rekisteriä uloskirjautumisen aikana. Käyttäjän rekisterin varaamaa muistia ei ole vapautettu. Rekisterin lataus poistetaan, kun rekisteri ei ole enää käytössä.

Tähän on usein syynä käyttäjän tilin avulla suoritettavat palvelut. Määritä palvelut LocalService- tai NetworkService-tilin avulla suoritettaviksi.

One little notice here:
My crash happend AFTER this error report appeared last time I log out computer.

Black Screen Hang (after splash screen appears) (usually video driver)

- install/reinstall latest version of video drivers.

LITTLE NOTE:
I don't even see the splash screen before hangup. Only that BIOS starting screen.

One more error is posted in event viewer. It is security related error.
Error is:

Description:
IP-protectservice: IPSec-services can not retreive lists on all network interfaces in this computer. This might danger computers protection because all network interfaces does not use IPsec-filter protection. Run IPSec-controlexpansion to analyze this problem.

Same in Finnish:
Kuvaus:
IP-suojauspalvelu: IPSec-palvelut eivät voineet hakea tämän tietokoneen kaikkien verkkoliittymien luetteloa. Tämä voi vaarantaa tietokoneen suojauksen, sillä kaikki verkkoliittymät eivät välttämättä käytä määritettyjen IPSec-suodattimien mukaista suojausta. Suorita IPSec-valvontalaajennus ongelman analysoimiseksi.

Sorry for double posting but new info here:
My other drive. Not system drive shows S.M.A.R.T parameter (0A)Spin Retry Count on yellow. But it says general health OK. Is this something to worry about? It shows this data in S.M.A.R.T line:
Current = 100
Worst = 100
Threshold = 97
And my hard drive temps are 45 degrees Celsius and 114 Fahrenheit. Is this too much or ok?

This is not bumping topic but some new info:
I ran CHKDSK /R /X and it fixed some problems.

Without /F selector CHKDSK reported this:
CHKDSK founded some free space marked reserved in NTFS FAT.

I downloaded that tool already and it shows no errors in my drive so there is something else going on.

My hardrive temperature is 123F. Is it good or bad?

Check my post #6. Is THAT the answer here?

Also sometime I have DVD in my drive during startup. CAN it cause problems?

What test did you run via the drive diagnostics?

Short, Quick, or Extended?
