Hello,

I have Windows XP Professional - Version 2002 - SP2.

My PC is infected with a trojan called HCPT-HOOK1 (TDSS.e!roolkit). It shows the typical symptoms other users on this forum have mentioned: Google searches are redirected; icons, shortcuts, action buttons and paths disappeared, the PC is slower, the number of processes running seems to have duplicated and some programs cannot be launched anymore (Skype, Remove Hardware option, and others). I am not able to enable Windows Firewall, because all firewall options are greyed-out.

I have managed to get the icons, etc. back using unhide.exe.

I have already run different malware removal tools recommended on this forum (McAfee, SuperantiSpyware, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes) without success. Every time I reboot, McAfee finds the same troyan again. The Kapasky´s TDDSKiller file does not work. I have tried renaming it, launching it in safe mode, and following other tips posted here, but it just won´t execute. Nothing happens when I double-click the *.exe, and I am not able not launch it via the command prompt either.

I am not an advanced Windows user, so I prefer not to experiment with possible solutions /removal programs on my own. I would really appreciate your help. Thanks.

Hello again,

I was to able to run DDS and obtain the two logs. I couldn´t run GRMER however. Right after having run DSS, a fake spyware message popped up: "PC infected with W32 Blaster.Worm.". After that, several pop-ups of different fake spyware and antivirus programs started showing up. Now I cannot run any program on my PC. Each time I click on an icon or try to execute a program, I get the same message: "Unable to run .....". In addition, I can´t start XP in Safe Mode, not even via the command prompt. When I try using F8, it seems it just ignores the command and the computer restarts in normal mode. When I try running in safe mode via the command prompt, a message appears: "Unable to run ...".

This is becoming more serious each day.

This is the DDS.txt file before the next attack I described above in this post (I am attaching the attach.txt):

Hello,

Another virus entered mi PC last week (3rd big one - a worm this time). I finally decided to reinitialize (reformat) the C drive. I ran different anti-spyware programs afterward, and everything seems to be working fine now. No sign of the trojan or worms(yet).

Thanks.

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!
