I am having this problem where my screen first start to flicker then goes black after a while. I think the back light is blown or something because I can still see what is on the screen if I shine a strong light directly on it. After the screen on my laptop went out and started using an external monitor and after about a year it happened again. I am on my second external monitor now and it is having those first signs of going out; started to flicker. Anybody knows what might cause this? Solution?

I usually turn on the computer in the morning and only shut off really late at night but my screen saver is set to be on after 5 minutes. Could this problem simply be due to over usage? I doubt this theory because I know some people use the screen for much more and never have this problem. I make sure all the cables are plugged in tightly too but the problem still persists. I think there might be some setting on my laptop that keeps destroying monitors. The refresh rate is 60 Hz which is the lowest possible.
