Hello:

I made a mistake and let my notebook be kind of an apartment computer, and recently got hit by the ping.exe cyber bug. Tried system restores, uninstalls, etc, nothing worked. Downloaded ComboFix, read the tutorial and got to work on it. I got to the point right after it installed the back up measures and it let me know that I had a difficult to remove malware item and it needed to reboot. When it did, the touchtrac mouse and hardwired keyboard didn't respond anymore. I haven't got a USB keyboard or mouse on me but I am going to get one tomorrow. I searched out a topic similar to this and it looked helpful but petered out before a resolution was found. It looks to me (A near layman on computer hardware) like the combofix might've erased the drivers. I am hoping someone can help me walk through the re installation of whatever I need to fix my notebook and clean it up.

I have an Acer AspireOne model netbook.

Operating system is Windows XP.

Thank you for any help I can get.

Hello,

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at step 6.

Once the proper logs are created, then post them in a reply to this topic by using the Add Reply button. Since you have run ComboFix, please include the ComboFix log in the reply.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the post and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the reply and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, include the information that you were unable to produce the other logs, include the ComboFix log, and describe what happens when you try to create the other logs.

Please note that I am not a member of the Malware Removal Team and will not be assisting you in removing the infection. I'm simply helping you to post the information they need in order to assist you.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

Firstly, I must just say the following:

Please note: ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert." It is NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer.

Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

The log you posted shows no sign of any malware so we need to check a few other areas

Please download aswMBR ( 511KB ) to your desktop.
  • Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run it
  • Click the Scan button to start the scan
  • On completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply.

And an OTL scan too

  • Download OTL to your desktop.
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
  • Under the Standard Registry box change it to All.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.

Alright, I'll do that as soon as I get back home. Does that mean that the Combofix might've gotten rid of the ping.exe problem? Second of all, how do I go about getting the keyboard and touch mouse working again, hoping to be able to return the USB stuff as cash is a little tight. If I need to hold onto it I certainly will.

Hi,

I have not had a reply from you for 4 days. Can you please tell me if you still need help with your computer as I am unable to help other members with their problems while I have your topic still open. The time taken between posts can also change the situation with your PC making it more difficult to help you.

If you like you can PM me.

Thanks,

m0le
