My roommate was concerned that my computer was appearing to access the internet (it's his router) even when my machine was turned off. That is what mainly prompted me to begin exploring whether or not I was infected. The other things that have been happening are that Safari tends to hog all the CPU and cause an extraordinary amount of harddisk activity, but it never bothered me enough to worry about it.
I downloaded and installed Malware Bytes; I ran a complete virus scan (MSE) yesterday, and a complete scan with MB. (I generally run a fullscan through MSE once a week.)
Neither showed any problems.
Today, I've been seeing almost constant balloon messages from MB that it has "successfully blocked access to a potentially malicious website" (Type: Outgoing) and then it gives me the IP address. They're all different (a few seem to be more prevalent than others) and it's almost constant.
I've also downloaded and run MS Rootkit Revealer, and it gave me a full page of stuff that means nothing to me.
