This problem only occurs now & then, and most recently after doing an application uninstall using the vendor's uninstall tool (from the All Programs listing). The final step of the uninstall procedure is to re-start the system. This is when boot up stops with just the wall paper graphics displayed -- no Desktop nor System Tray. I recovered only after several attempts at System Restore (via Safe Mode), selecting earlier and earlier reset dates. All startups since then have been OK but, now I'm uneasy about doing ANY uninstalls!! Any one have a suggestion about what's going on (and how to fix)?? Posted Image

Without knowing what program was uninstalled, it would not be easy to say what exactly happen.

jhayz --

Thanks for your reply. The program was Ad-Aware Pro (by Lavasoft). Since my posting here, Lavasoft provided me a link to a "third party" uninstaller (RevoUninstaller). I used this uninstaller (instead of Lavasoft's) and it did a "clean" uninstall -- the computer did a successful re-start. I then was able to install the updated version of Ad-Aware Pro. So, everything is working again! Posted Image
