Uhohh, I'm back again! But not for my own computer.. it's my sisters computer that is infected.

Her computer is a desktop computer and it runs on Windows XP. She told me that the other day she downloaded some MSN emoticons and a program called "iMesh" to put music on her MP3 player or something. Since then, her internet homepage has been set to "iMesh", she has useless toolbars at the top of her browser and has the program on her desktop.

I have already scanned her computer with MalwareBytes once and it found 26 things, I removed them and restarted the computer. iMesh is still there and so is the emoticon program.

Any help would make us so happy :)
Thanks!

Hello again. Please post that MBAM log..
The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply. Be sure to post the complete log to include the top portion which shows MBAM's database version and your operating system.

Go into Control Paqnel ,Add/Remove programs and see if iMesh is there to uninstall.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) is a set of services that allow applications written in JScript, VBScript, and Microsoft development tools to build Windows-native XML-based applications. It supports XML 1.0, DOM, SAX, an XSLT 1.0 processor, XML schema support including XSD and XDR, as well as other XML-related technologies.

Ok, so what remains.

The emoticon program on the desktop is still there, and it's quite strange because when I hover my cursor over it, it shows a website called Bandoo or something. Can't find it in programs either so I can't uninstall it from there.
Also, the internet browser still wants to bring up iMesh when I click it instead of the regular Firefox homepage

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the emoticons program in the Control Panel and removed it. The desktop icon is still there but I assume it's useless so I'm going to delete it.
The problem with iMesh and Firefox still remains though

click Scanner tab, select Quick scan and scan (normal mode).
After scan click Remove Selected, Post new scan log and Reboot into normal mode.

  • When the scan completes, push Posted Image
  • Push Posted Image, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

I just had to deal with the iMesh Toolbar on my daughter's laptop this weekend. It was quite persistent. To ensure it's completely gone you can download and use WinPatrol: IE Helpers. If you don't want to install WinPatrol, there is always the option to use WinPatrol ToGo, a portable version which also includes IE Helpers. If a related entry is present, click on it to highlight, then choose remove.

The link boopme provided How to Remove an Imesh Toolbar, tells you how to check FireFox Add-Ons. More details about that here:

Just because you're not using IE, does not mean iMesh did not install itself there so I would double check.
