Hi,
I was having trouble with searching in outlook so I turned on windows indexer.
My computer slowed down so much I thought it was a virus and it was frozen.
I scanned with AVG then uninstalled AVG and installed windows new virus scanner scanned with that scanned with superantispyware.
No viruses!!
Then I checked memory and processor and I was not using a lot but the computer was still amost frozen when I would load firefox or outlook.

I shut off indexer and I can now use my computer again but there is still a pause when I click to open firefox where the computer does not respond.
Any ideas what I can do to get my computer back to normal?

Thanks in advance

Oh one other thing
I used ccleaner to clean
I went into system restore and I had a lot of restore points. I was going to do that but when I went back I had lost my restore points and only had one....!!!!

Try running the chkdsk /r command.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter.

Type Y in new screen and hit Enter.

Reboot...the command will execute...the system will then boot into Windows.

I suggest that you leave indexing permanently disabled...I've never noticed any benefit of any sort and...it's typically disabled by users.

Thanks
It did a check disk on its own...I stopped the service and now I just disabled it
Should I uninstall the window indexer in the add and remove programs under windows programs?

Here is the info: I am surprised to see all of the things in the list
I thought I had deleted most of these
I dont use quickbooks
I uninstalled Hard drive health although I like the program
I dont have weather
I gave away the cannon printer years ago
windows search is there...damn ... it is like a virus I put it up because if I did a search in outlook for something simple like the name Jane....It pulled hundreds of emails most that didnt have jane in it. I thought indexer was supposed to fix it.

After completing the above task then Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.
http://oldtimer.geekstogo.com/TFC.exe
Save any unsaved work. TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!
Double-click on TFC.exe to run it.If TFC doesnt prompt a reboot then please do so manually. In your next reply I will need to see an uninstall list from ccleaner please.Open ccleaner hit tools uninstall save to text file and post in your next reply

EDIT: You will need to disable avast to run tfc.exe for some reason avast doesnt like it but you really only need to reboot your pc for the changes to take effect.
Hit start run then type msconfig then hit the services tab then put a check mark in hide microsoft services what is listed there, after hiding microsoft services?

You just double posted your startup entries from ccleaner i need to see what services you have after disabling microsoft services.I need to see them in a vertical list please.

Ok I ran trc autorun avg uninstaller.
Everything is running better after it boots it hangs for 5 min...when i open outlook it hangs for 3 min.
Then I can move around a bit without it hanging. Smetimes I get a "not reponding" in outlook and others when I close but it is just hanging.
So I can now use the computer ...and the hanging is not as much as before.
I noticed when I get the first xp screen to log on as my choice of 2 users...it tells me outlook has 400 unopened messages. Then it hangs a lot when I click it 5 min and same when I open outlook. It there a way to get XP to not read and count my mail, maybe that is causing problems. It seems that outlook is working the worse now..
Thanks for all your haelp.
I think I will try tfc and auto run again

Go ahead and list the services from msconfig please the ones that are there after hiding microsoft services i need to see those to complete this process. An easier way to do this is run hijack this do a system scan and save log file but dont post the whole log only post the parts from the log that have 23 next to them. For example these are the services running on my computer. http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
O23 - Service: AddFiltr - Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Quick Launch Buttons\AddFiltr.exe
O23 - Service: avast! Antivirus - AVAST Software - C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\AvastSvc.exe
O23 - Service: MBAMService - Malwarebytes Corporation - C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
O23 - Service: McAfee SiteAdvisor Service - McAfee, Inc. - c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee\SITEAD~1\mcsacore.exe
O23 - Service: XAudioService - Conexant Systems, Inc. - C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\xaudio.exe

I dont think there will be any harm in me asking you to post the services from hijack this as it is not the entire log and it shows the samething as when you open msconfig and hide microsoft services it will just make it easier for you to post them here to me instead of you having to type out each entry
