As the title states I am infected with the "Privacy Protection" virus, Google keeps redirecting, and my firewall is not turning on. I ran a malwarbytes in safemode w/ networking and the scan found 8 infections, I removed them but this problem still consists. I then ran tdsskiller.exe and followed the proper instructions such (renaming to a random.com extension... and yes I actually changed the extension).

I am a brand new member so HELLO FORUM!!! I think what you guys do is great so I did my homework and hopefully I posted everything you need. The instruction on how to post told me not to post the "Attach.txt" unless requested so if you guys need it just let me know. Below is my DDS.txt

Edit: CD Emulation is turned off.. forgot to mention that

Edit 2: I am sorry but I can't edit the original post because Im using my iPhone to type this and i don't know where the edit button is.
... Anyway the situation just got much worse. I can not run the operating system and when I try to go into safemode it gets suck on the hal.dll

Edit 3: I managed to get a hold of a laptop temporarily that will act as my computer. I have some really bad news, not only is my laptop infected, I have two desktop computers with the EXACT SAME virus on the same network. I have not shared any files between any of the three computers.

Edit 4: My fourth computer, a laptop, also got infected with the exact same virus. No idea whats happening, I think it's jumping from computer to computer on my wifi. I just want to clarify that this post is still for my initial computer.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

Posted Image In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/426855 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

Posted Image If you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS and GMER log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links if you no longer have it available. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control HERE

We also need a new log from the GMER anti-rootkit Scanner.

Please note that if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows you will not be able to run GMER and you may skip this step.

Please first disable any CD emulation programs using the steps found in this topic:

Why we request you disable CD Emulation when receiving Malware Removal Advice

Then create another GMER log and post it as an attachment to the reply where you post your new DDS log. Instructions on how to properly create a GMER log can be found here:

How to create a GMER log

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

I left the computer off ever since I posted the first topic so nothing has changed, therefore I don't really need a new log since I haven't done anything to eliminate the virus on my own. I would like to note that I have my recovery disks but it doesn't allow me to repair the computer.

When I turn my computer on it give me two options...

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose Start Windows Normally.

..."Launch Startup Repair (recommended)" and "Start Windows Normally". If I choose "Launch Startup Repair" it says "Windows is loading files..." but the loading bar does not move at all. If I choose "Star Windows Normally" it freezes on the windows loading screen.

I can not enter safemode either. When I press F8 my computer beeps every time I press it and I get a black screen with a flashing cursor.

Also, I tired putting in a windows 7 OS disk and go to windows repair, but it also gives me an error. I have also put in a working laptop hard drive and the laptop works fine. So its not a hardware issue. I think the main problem is that the recovery disk cannot detect the system image.

Hello

That sounds pretty bad- you have not run any tools to try and clean this - it is ok just need to know what you may have tried

Try this please. You will need a USB drive.

Download http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/unetbootin-xpud-windows-latest.exe & http://noahdfear.net/downloads/bootable/xPUD/xpud-0.9.2.iso to the desktop of your clean computer
  • Insert your USB drive
  • Press Start > My Computer > right click your USB drive > choose Format > Quick format
  • Double click the unetbootin-xpud-windows-387.exe that you just downloaded
  • Press Run then OK
  • Select the DiskImage option then click the browse button located on the right side of the textbox field.
  • Browse to and select the xpud-0.9.2.iso file you downloaded
  • Verify the correct drive letter is selected for your USB device then click OK
  • It will install a little bootable OS on your USB device
  • Once the files have been written to the device you will be prompted to reboot ~ do not reboot and instead just Exit the UNetbootin interface
  • After it has completed do not choose to reboot the clean computer simply close the installer
  • Next download http://noahdfear.net/downloads/driver.sh to your USB

I just tried it again. Fresh start.. but its the same thing... I managed to find out what the text is saying.

"BAR 6: no parent found for of device [0xfff00000-0xffffffff]"
"conflict with ACPI region SMB]"
...creating new authority file...

Then it goes all dark

http://www.megavideo.com/?v=5V0R725Y ..I managed to take a video of it

It is possible for me to just reinstall windows 7 on my computer but I would much rather just remove the current virus.

If there is nothing you need to remove then yes that would be the fastest

I am looking at other ways to do what we need but without being able to boot into xpud makes things alot more complicated

I just tried this method but when I boot up the disk I get some display error where the screen starts flashing. To deal with this problem the tutorial said this

"If you encounter display problems when booting on the Rescue CD (wrong colours, cut image, ...), when the Rescue CD boot menu appears, please type 3 and try all the display modes until you find the right."

So I tried every single display mode(15 different types) and none of them worked.
