Im looking for help with a slow computer(xp pro)as soon as I log on my cpu maxes out and stays that way most of the time, whithout an internet connection it sounds like my pc is writeing to the harddisk almost constantly and I cant seem to be able to add a printer seems no matter what I do it gets fouled up somehow.I first thought it was a spoolsv.exe virus and tried a couple things from the web but with no luck.Im not good with a computer but I can follow directions if anyone can help I would be forever thankful.

Welcome aboard Posted Image

Download Process Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
Unzip ProcessExplorer.zip, and double click on procexp.exe to run the program.
Click on View > Select Colunms.
In addition to already pre-selected options, make sure, the Command Line is selected, and press OK.
Go File>Save As, and save the report as Procexp.txt.
Attach the file to your next reply.

CPU usage looks perfectly fine.
System Idle Process (CPU NOT used) is listed at 96.88%.
How exactly do you see high CPU usage?

when I get on my pc I can open the task manager and click on something and the cpu spikes as i think is normal but it doesnt return to what I think is a normal percentage it stays at maby 90% or 100% pages freeze sometimes it can take up to 15 minutes to load something like facebook probably half the time when a page finally does load an icon in the bottom left of the page will say done but with errors I think it was about a week ago it took an hour and 14 minutes to download a 15kb driver for an hp printer when i dont touch anything for about 30sec it sounds to me like its writeing to the harddisk if i move the mouse it stops until i dont touch anything for maby 30seconds and it goes rite back to writeing again

OK, are you saying that high CPU usage happens when you start using your browser?
If so what browser?

get rid of avg or turn it all off, fastest way is start menu > run > type " msconfig " > go to startup tab and unclick everything that is avg > restart computer . Is your hdd still thrashing about? What amount of ram do you have? XP needs over 200mb just to load itself and with all the other startup programs can need 300mb of ram just to boot! Maybe disable more startup programs and see if it gets faster . Also run disk check and defrag the drive if you haven`t done that yet.
