Righto, you folk are amazing and I've been lucky enough to fix my computer a few times by winging instructions given to similarly afflicted technophiles a few times. This last time I really gave up though. I had some rootkits and the computer was outdated, so I decided it was just time to move up instead. I do play plenty of games, and in the past those downloads were always the source of nasty viruses and everything, but on this new (two-day-old) machine, I'm already running into slow speeds. I haven't downloaded anything that wasn't from what Kaspersky deemed a "safe" site, in fact the only thing I've downloaded besides a few pictures and videos from Fabo is NWN2 from Atari/findmyorder.com.

Kaspersky seems to be my problem. Obviously having it running will slow things down... but I mean, I have 6gb of DDR3 Ram and what I thought was a... decent low end processor i5 2320, 3.0GHz... and I can't open up a game, or even microsoft word or powerpoint when it's active. When I try to scan, it tells me it will take 24 hours-4 days (fluctuating) and despite leaving my computer on last night in hopes it would scan anyways, I turned my screen on this morning to find it a little over 10% finished.

I don't want to sit around and wait for a virus with no Kaspersky, but, uh, I do wanna use my computer. I can't scan to see if something's on it to make it this slow. Wat do?

Also this is my first post, good to be here gentlemen.
