There's no harm in occasional scans with MalwareBytes and / or Super AntiSpyware. You should also install SpywareBlaster and update the definitions weekly. It is passive protection (does not use any resources) and blocks certain websites from your browser(s).

I adore cats, and this is what I did on my pc.
I had Microsoft security essentials for about one year. Its rootkit protection was zero,so I had to remove every two weeks about 150-200 mb of rootkits. With Sophos anti rootkit.
Than I switched to Avast.
Protection is excellent, not only against viruses, but to all known malware and rootkits.
I am very happy with Avast and I recommend to everybody.
And you will not need any other anti malware program

If you give a fish to a hungry man,you have feed him for one day.If you teach a man how to fish, you have feed him for the whole life!
