Good afternoon everyone,

Not sure this is the most appropriate place to post this, but here goes.

For the past 24 hours, every time I have tried to access the McAfee Community Forums, I keep getting the "Internet cannot display the page" message. This occurs even when clicking on the Internet search results for the McAfee Forums.

Is anyone else having this problem or know why this is happening?

Many thanks for any info!

Is this: https://community.mcafee.com/index.jspa what you're trying to reach? If so, works fine for me.

Hi Orange Blossom, and thanks for the fast reply!

The link you have is also the one I use, but even when I clicked on the link in your reply, I still get the
Internet cannot display the page" message.

This has never happened before and I've been posting on that site for over a year now. I also checked to see if the site is down via the link you provided, and it states the site is up. There must be something wrong on my end...but WHAT...I have no idea!

Any ideas as to what's happening?

Thanks again!

Have you tried clearing cache and cookies? If not, please do so.

Shut down the browser, then restart the browser and try to get to the website.

Have you tried connecting using a different browser?

Hi again Orange Blossom,

I'm not the most computer-saavy person, but here is what I did:

1. I went offline.
2. Ran the TFC program (by Oldtimer).
3. Deleted Internet cookies.
4. Rebooted the computer.

I only have IE8 on this machine. After doing all of the aforementioned, I am still not able to access the McAfee Community Forums Site...still getting the same message as before. I have no problem accessing other forums I belong to...just the McAfee Forum. (I was just on the forum yesterday).

(How do I shut down the browser and restart it?)

Hello,

I'm shifting this topic to the WebBrowsing forum.

Shutting down the browser simply means closing the browser application by clicking on the red X in the upper right corner of the browser. Then you have to reopen it by clicking on the browser icon on the desktop, in quick launch, or from the program files list. Since you've rebooted the computer, that has been done by default.

Can you post a screenshot of the 404 not found message?

Hi Cryptodan,

The page that is displayed whenever I try to go to the McAfee Forums site, simply says, "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." It has a button which says, "Diagnose Connection Problems." NO error code is shown.

I took a screenshot with mspaint, but I do not see any way to post it here??? (The text below is what is displayed when trying to go to the McAfee site).

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

What you can try:

You can upload it to http://www.imageshack.us and post the resulting links here.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
  • List Minidump Files
Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

Hi again Cryptodan,

I uploaded that jpg image to the link you gave. I also downloaded and ran that MiniToolBox program. I do not know how to attach the result.txt file here, so the only thing I know how to do was just to copy and paste the results below for your review. Sorry...to have to do it this way, but unfortunately what is no doubt "second-nature" to most people here, is like Egyptian heiroglyphics to me, so-to-speak.

The results are shown below the dashed line. Thanks again for any help!-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you do me a favor, and bring up a command prompt via start then run and type in cmd.

perform the following:

nslookup us.mcafee.com

Also post the link to your image.

I did as you asked and took a screenshot of the results (jpg format), however...I have NO idea of how to include the image here for you to view. I apologize that I'm just not saavy enough with stuff like this. Frankly, I'm just ready to throw in the towel on the whole mess...it's just becoming more and more complicated and stressing me out big time.

Thanks very much for your time and help though.

Here is something else to try.

Go to this page:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378

And click the green "run now" button.

Then try the McAfee forum again.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who haven't got it.

Sorry to say, but nothing is working for me with this issue, Cryptodan. The Microsoft link was of no help either. If I was a damn bit more knowledgeable about computers...then maybe I could remedy this issue! For now, I'm through wasting any more time trying to figure it out.

Thanks again for at least trying to help me out!
