Hi all,

New here and need some help please. Following a recent mishap where a lot of my drivers were deleted from my computer, I got a message, (which I did not write down properly, naughty me) something about missing the uhcd.sys file and to insert my Windows 98 disk. I do not have a Win 98 disk so cannot do that.

Since then, after reinstalling my drivers and software for both my printer and my digital camera, I am unable to use either, as they are not connecting to the computer.

I have been onto a driver site and downloaded uhcd.sys but I do not know where to place it or what to do with it. When I click on it, it just brings up the box that asks which application I want to open it with.

If anybody can please offer some assistance I would be very grateful.

Regards,
Deb.

I don't know anything about that particular file, but I guess it might be worthwhile you looking for a windows disk on eBay (you can get them for a few dollars) - if unsure, go for a 98SE full installation version. ;)

Hi there,

Thank you for your advice... I'll check Ebay out for a disk.

By the way... I couldn't help but smile at what I feel was a coincidence. Many years ago, here in Australia, I used to have a CB radio. My call sign was "Crazy Diamond" as I loved Pink Floyd and had not long since been to their concert two nights in a row before getting the CB.

Last night, for some reason, the song "Shine on you crazy diamond" was playing over and over in my head, just before I went to sleep. Now I wake up and someone called Floydoid has replied to my post LMAO.

Thanks again,
Deb.

Hi again Deb

Seeing as you like the Floyd too, I cranked up my old windows 98 machine especially for you, and found that the file uhcd.sys should live in the folder c:\windows\system32\drivers.

Good luck :D

Hi Floyd and Acklan,

Thanks very much for your replies. I have actually already fixed the problem... apparently I needed more than just the UHCD.sys so I downloaded a heap of others and it seems to have rectified the problem. In any case I am able to plug in my camera and upload the photos onto my computer now, so I gather the USB is all working again.

Thanks heaps you guys,

Regards,
Deb.

I love a happy ending ... or new beginning ... that said,
now simply Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.
It'll all work out ... as we do yet another rendition of Us & Them,
with a functioning USB again, I guess.

Good Job, Deb.
Acklan & of course the inimitable Floydoid. :flowers:
