Hello dave and welcome to the forum -

There is always a chance that HiJackThis (HJT) did not fully download on the computer, and therefore is not creating a file.
Please try to remove (Delete) your current install of HJT (look in Programs and Features) and then reinstall, but this time make sure you save it to Desktop.

If you do not want to do it this way then reinstall and save to Documents, then, from there create a shortcut to Desktop. . . . Although I am sure it has an option to "create a desktop shortcut" in the download menu.
The program will then run from desktop, and leave the contents of the report open for you to see.
From here you can copy / paste a record of the report into Notepad or similar.

Thank You -

If you want to run Hijack This and post the log here in Bleeping Computer you need to know that other tools are recommended now.

Run those instead.
